“Some tend to think that ‘If you take the mark of the beast you’re going to hell, ugh!’ Nah… I’m not thinking so.”

David Allen Hoffman, pastor affiliated with Bible Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Rensselaer and Lowell, Indiana, and more well-known as the author of the popular Common Man’s Reference Bible – which is now in its recently released sixth edition – says he does believe some one who takes the mark of the beast goes to hell.

In an video message preached posted June 13th on YouTube, “The Pre-Tribulation Rapture Controversy,” Hoffman explained some different doctrinal views and beliefs around this belief, including some of the other common interpretations surrounding a rapture of Christians.

Roughly 19 minutes into the half-hour message, Hoffman explains why he does believe that someone could still take the mark of the beast and still go to heaven after death.

The mark of the beast can be found, as Hoffman points out, explictly 8 times in the scriptures. The first reference teaches a future prophecy that who is commonly referred to as the Antichrist and False Prophet, will rule this one world government that they control, and force all those that are living to receive his mark and the number of his name.

[16] And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: [17] And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. [18] Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Revelation 13:16-18

Some Christians believe that once an individual receives this mark they go to hell for eternity. Hoffman offers a different critique of this position.

Some tend to think that ‘If you take the mark of the beast you’re going to hell, ugh!’ Nah… I’m not thinking so.

Now personally I don’t want to try it, and I have no intention to because I am predestinated to be like Christ.

Commenting on Revelation 13, he says those that take the mark will do so “by fear or by force.” Hoffman then asks the question if he is not so sure if someone who takes the mark automatically goes to hell.

Hoffman then proceeds to read the other passages where the mark of the beast is explicitly spoken of. The first passage he reads is Revelation 14:9-11, the next direct reference to the mark of the beast.

[9] And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, [10] The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: [11] And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.

Revelation 14:9-11

After reading this passage, Hoffman elaborates on his position:

Notice two things: receive the mark and worship the beast. Worshipping the beast is implying voluntary acceptance. That’s the bottom line.

Hoffman goes onto read the other passages that mention the mark of the beast (Rev 15:2, 16:2, 19:20, 20:4). Hoffman’s assertion is that in the passages listed, the mark of the beast is also associated with worshipping the image of beast, the antichrist, too. So, in other words, he implies that if someone were to just take the mark, but not worship the beast as well, that person could very well not go to hell.

No New Thing Under The Sun

Hoffman’s viewpoint surrounding the mark of the beast is a belief that has been shared by others in a similar, though sometimes slightly different, perspective.

In late 2015 Geoffrey Grider of Now The End Begins (NTEB) interviewed famous young-earth creationist and apologist Kent Hovind, after serving a decade sentence in prison for fraud concerning ministry practices. Hovind, who was a staunch Pre-Trib rapture believer came to reject this position and converted to what would be viewed as the polar opposite, which is nicknamed “Post-Trib” – the idea that the Church must endure through the entirety of “The Tribulation” to be saved.

Hovind also came to a conclusion that someone could take the mark of the beast and still go to heaven. Noting the same thing Hoffman did, Hovind said that worshipping the beast and his image are all connected, therefore, meaning that if all three are not accomplished, the person could still be saved.

An additional interviewer on the radio broadcast then asked,

Q: So, if a Christian does all those three things, would they still be saved?

Hovind: I don’t know, I think so.

This prompted the interview to be ended immediately.

There are other preachers that question if someone can take the mark of the beast and still go to heaven, too, regardless of views on the “rapture.”

Another example would be missionary evangelist Robert Breaker, pastor of the Cloud Church, who affirms that if one were to take the mark of the beast that person goes to hell, however, believes that someone could potentially chop their right hand off, theorizing that perhaps there will be a lot of one-handed people that enter the millennial reign of Jesus Christ.

Another preacher with the same education and similar beliefs is Gene Kim, pastor of San Jose Bible Baptist Church in Santa Clara, California, also affirmed something identical in a message posted to YouTube, though that video has since been deleted.

Other well-known pastors such as John MacArthur take things a bit further, and teaches that someone can take the mark of the beast and still have no fear of going to hell.

His right hand man, Phil Johnson, clarifies MacArthur’s stances that have been a source of controversy for some for years, on a podcast with former New Ager and occultist Doreen Virtue and other woman – which Johnson says that the only sin that is not forgivable is the “unpardonable sin” that Jesus mentioned in the gospel accounts.

[31] Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. [32] And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.

Matthew 12:31-32

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

Here is how you debunk Hoffman’s thinking: read the pretext in Revelation 13.

[11] And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. [12] And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. [13] And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, [14] And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. [15] And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

Revelation 13:11-18

All of these people such as Hoffman, and many others like them (there are certainly more than the ones listed in the above report), will skip the pretext of what the “false prophet” will do and command. He commands that the lost world make an image of this antichrist, which he will cause to move and speak; and those that do not worship the idol will be killed. From there, he then because of these miracles that will deceive the whole world, will cause the mark of the beast to be implemented. I underlined part of verse 17 for a reason. Take a look at Revelation 15:2:

And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

Revelation 15:2

Notice that this passage adds a fourth stipulation to the mix that aligns itself with that of Revelation 13. Worshipping the beast and his image, and taking the mark are INSEPARABLE. This is why the pretext of the creation of the giant image is important because once the lost world sees these miracles and are forcibly deceived (2 Thes 2:1-12), and are forced to worship this image, they will also readily accept the mark.

I mean, think about this for a second: what sense would it make for someone to voluntarily take to the mark but choose not to worship the beast and his image; or vice-versa, where someone worships the image but rejects the instigated mark. What sense does that make? The two are inseparable.

Not only that, WinePress readers know that we have been coming out with numerous reports documenting that the future beast system will be autonomous smart cities where the people themselves will be controlled and locked into the grid, essentially becoming a programmed cyborg. So, all those that take the mark will totally lose their free will and volition to have freedom of choice. You even see in Revelation 16 when the Lord begins to pour out the vial judgments, and the first one is directly against those who take the mark and worship the image of the beast. Later on you see these people directly blaspheming God for their pains and refusing to repent after cognitively recognizing it is God that is doing it. I theorize, but I almost wonder that if when these smart cities and grids completely collapses, these lost people will come out of their virtual reality mind control and curse God for ending their delusion – killing them for rejecting God – which, at that point, these people decide to double-down some more and just continue to blaspheme and sin. Could I be right? I do not know.

Nevertheless, what is very clearly stated and explained so many times in the book of Revelation (for a reason) is now becoming not so clear by people, saved or not, that are trying to downplay an extremely crucial warning and command for the saints for that coming time period – which is why I am taking the time to address this, because, if someone who is unsaved sees this and ends up in this time period, then they could use this to rationalize in their minds, “Well, preacher-man said I am not going to hell if I take this here mark, and I do have to eat after all…”.

Additionally, for those that are unaware: Kent Hovind it just a Jesuit-catholic plant that suckered a lot of people in for saying all the right things very well (better than most in some respects); Robert “Big Chungus” Breaker and Gene “Clickbait” Kim are some of the most biggest and legitimate psychopaths that have persecution-complexes like no other. They say you can chop your hand off and make it in the millennium. So, what happens when someone gets it in their heads? Do they run around like a chicken with its head cut off. John MacArthur and the Grace Hell To You crew have made a living of correcting the Bible for years, which, their official position on the mark of the beast ignores the very clear passages that say anyone that takes it goes to hell.

Hireling John MacArthur Says He Will Not Fight For Religious Freedom. Calls It Idolatry

Bottom line is this: ANYONE in that time period that takes the mark of the beast WILL got to HELL with absolutely zero chance of redemption. Period. Done. Over. Out.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • Great post brother Jacob. I honestly couldn’t figure out a way around what Hoffman was saying. Guess I have to read my Bible more.

Brethren, beware of the leaven of Hoffman. If you have his reference Bible be careful with it because it has some deceptive references to the pagan trinity that will mess you up.

    1 Corinthians 8:6 KJV
[6] But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

    2 Samuel 22:32 KJV
[32] For who is God, save the Lord ? and who is a rock, save our God?

    John 13:13 KJV
[13] Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

    • Amen. Every once in a blue moon I’ll look up his references or notes. I quoted one of his statements on Melchisedec in my book because it is just so silly it needed to be addressed.

      • Jacob, I need to ask you something: I feel embarrassed but it must be done. I want to have a true King James Bible salvation and over several months, I’ve been struggling with and fighting sin and a few times I’ve felt separation and it is a terrible feeling! I want a changed life, I lived like a heathen for the previous decade and I don’t want that anymore, and with the “pandemic” that is a wake up call on steroids; since then my fight against my flesh began.
Even while I was living for pleasure, the seed was being planted and now, it’s taking root. I don’t want my heart to be hardened, Jacob!
I saw Bryan’s message about no hope for the hard hearted and I was scared and worried. I don’t want to wind up like that!

        • 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?
Andrew, I don’t know you personally, but if you are worried about salvation, you need to just go over it in your mind and in prayers with God about what he did for you, what happened when you believe he saved you, and so on. I will say that, all newly saved Christians go through a period of doubt and confusion. It took me an entire year for me to truly have that assurance.

          • Thank you, Jacob.
Here’s a personal thought: I’ve felt periods of separation like as if God was temporarily separated from me as if to teach me a lesson, and the last time, it felt awful, so with that Jacob, I don’t think my heart has officially totally hardened, but I need to quit daddling around and get busy! I believe those bouts of separation like where I’m numbed and ashamed and feeling guilty and embarrassed are warning shots to me.
Again, thank you, Jacob. God bless you.

          • Thanks for the link to Bryan’s video, Jacob. I’m starting to feel some solace coming back as I listen to it. That separation feeling I felt was terrible to say the least and I don’t want God to harden my heart! I’m not gonna go into detail for sake of being pure, but that last moment I sinned, shame, embarrassment and guilt along with that separation moment come upon me and it was a terrible hopeless feeling and I now believe that was a firm grave warning from Jesus. It was like either I get cleaned up and totally repent or I’ll just sink deeper and it’ll get worse.
Pray that there’ll be a King James Bible believer here in Laredo, Texas, please Jacob. If you ever came down to Laredo, I guarantee ya you will be vexed! If Bryan Denlinger or any other true believer as yourselves came down here to Laredo, he and others will be overwhelmed by the vexing evil in this city, but a true believer or believers are much needed down here!

Laredo, Texas and what makes it so vexing:
            1. Roman Catholicism galore
            2. Church buildings everywhere both Protestant and catholic
            3. Pentecostalism and charismatics (sad truth: my mom is deceived and blinded and is an ordained Assemblies of God pastor and I am sick of it! Pray my mom gets saved!)
            4. Witchcraft and superstition as the result of Catholicism and perhaps the Protestant denominations as well even.
            5. Sex perversion and lust. Two quote end quote “gentlemen’s clubs” here in Laredo.
            6. Recently, Gay Pride parade coming up on June 26th; so God’s judgement is gonna hit Laredo big time!
            7. Corruption in law enforcement and politics. Not all cops but there are crooked cops here.
Litter, destruction, and roads, streets and so on just crumbling and holes and cracks everywhere.

  • “I mean, think about this for a second: what sense would it make for someone to voluntarily take to the mark but choose not to worship the beast and his image; or vice-versa, where someone worships the image but rejects the instigated mark. What sense does that make? The two are inseparable.”

That’s the exact same thing I think of every time I hear people say that “you can take the mark and not worship the beast and therefore still go to heaven”. I’ve heard that claim many times and I’m surprised that Hoffman believes that.

It’s kinda sad that he believes that garbage though. A couple of years ago I read through the 4th edition of the Common Man’s Reference Bible and the notes he has in it were very helpful. And I’ve watched some of his videos and they were pretty alright too. I’d hadn’t see that one though… Hopefully he gets his act together and the LORD corrects him on that garbage he believes. Pretty disappointing.

I don’t know if he teaches that in the newer editions of his study Bible, but this just proves that at the end of the day, the best King James Bible you can get is a plain text King James Bible.

  • This is a shame. Looks like I am going to have to remove my recommendations from my site. So it goes, I guess we should have had a clue:

    – He is pastoring at two churches
    – “Common Man’s Reference Bible”, common man is lost.

I always stick to The Lord Jesus, and his Word. If something does not match what I find in the KJV, toss it. I guess we need to be on our toes. Satan is going to do everything he can, and pull out sleeper agents as well.

Mitch – Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

  • Hoffman teaches the Satanic Trinity doctrine also. I’ve had several email conversations with him over this wicked teaching in regards to his notes in his reference Bible.

  • I do like pastor Hofmann’s youtube channel and he has alot great video’s (watched alot of em). UNTIL Ive heard this stuff about him saying that you could take the mark, and his stances about the Trinity that I absolutely don’t like. Nobody is perfect sure, but this are just two stances I cant put up with. Especially when i’ve heard that multiple people contacted him about the Trinity, probably multiple times throughout the years.

According to his last video, he is willing to change his view IF you can give him the proof with the Scriptures. But that means he has to come out publicly and say he was wrong about some things in his teachings that are in his commentary Bible’s. Is a man willing to do that, or is pride in the way? I don’t doubt that he is saved, but I just don’t like these two stances he has.

  • ‘Common’ in our age means the antichrist system & body, humanist corporatism. Babylonian. Watching these guys, I’m thinking that when men step off the Rock to the only the originals position….presumption & heresy are a given. When they don’t rightly divide & study to shew themselves approved, working out their own salvations with fear & trembling even with the right word…..idolatrous presumption & heresy are givens, & probably man-following idolatry taking men captive. The tripping web that a for-profit ‘commentary Bible’ comes with potent snares which many who confound a salvation by works with the true salvation by faith, a gift of God coming of the word & Holy Spirit. God blessed the no-notes King James Bible for a reason & despite men’s frailties. After a fashion, & when direct force & suppression failed, Rome didn’t care if men had Bibles….so long as they also received the conditioning notes ‘defining’ them for them by her traditions & philosophies of men & devils.
We know that the best lies (most effective for evil) are mostly truth with just a bit of corruption introduced either knowingly or unconsciously due to the universal corruptibility of men. Heresy begets heresy & a little leaven leavens the whole lump. What can you do but warn, point a soul to the preserved word, & separate? People need to be warned against connecting themselves to this thing that is more obvious & less subtle everyday to those viewing it through the eyes of Bible faith.
My thanks to this ministry & Bryan for clarifying on Japheth in the tents of Shem. Makes more sense of the Gog-Magog groupings. Been pondering the prophecy on smiting the bow from the left hand, and the arrows from the right when God is sanctified before the heathen in the destruction of Gog, sending fire on them & those dwelling carelessly in the isles in light of Revelation 6 & the antichrist passages in Daniel. The one wielding a bow without arrows would be the antichrist placeholder, a pope & the whore system wielding power through manipulation….the communist/epicurean side of Babylonian corporatism? with the arrows wielded by his crony ‘kings’ and mighty men of the earth & their armies? the fascist/stoick side of Babylonian corporatism? That final head growing tired of sharing the power & glory.
Seems to solidify the timing of this war, since this would seem to be the fall of Rome & the merchants with their enforcers in Revelation 17&18. Links with the great earthquake leveling much of the world, too.
As the US has fallen back to Romish Babylon & away from the toleration & promotion of biblical faith, truth, & Christian liberty losing her reason for existing in God’s economy, if she exists until that time, in the isles of the Gentiles, a portion of Japheth dwelling in the tents of Shem, that will surely be her end.

  • Another minister of Satan who has butchered Gods Word and thinks he’s justified to do it because he’s “educated.” His education, degrees, scholastic achievements, induction into the two or three Greek letter honors societies…they’re all DUNG!!! In addition, he’s puke yet to be spewed out!

  • I used to listen to John MacArthur but stopped shortly before he made the comments about taking the mark, that just sealed the deal for me.

    • John MacArthur’s smug educated face makes me sick! Pardon me, but John Mac-garbage’s face is punchable! He’s ruined and confused just as many people maybe slightly more than Rick Warren. Him and his satanic bizarro beliefs can go to hell! RC Sproul, who was one of MacArthur’s cronies died and went to hell back in 2017, saw a thumbnail of Sproul with an oxygen tank and nasal cannula (oxygen tube for the nose in case you don’t know) and that was a sure sign that he was pining away.

  • I also find it interesting that Hoffman is clearly mocking what the Bible teaches about people going to hell. He sounds like many lost people I have encountered over the years, who laugh about going to hell. Notice how he over-exaggerated the word “hell”.

    • Yeah, I thought that was weird, too. Plus, I don’t know if you finished the video, but he talked about how he has post-tribbers in his congregation and he acted like it was a joke, and pretty much acts like believing in post-trib is no big deal. I’ve never been a huge fan of Hoffman to begin with; never understand the hoopla surrounding him: probably because he’s a flatty. To me, he’s just another one of these condescending and arrogant Baptists that pastors a dead congregation.

    • Hoffman’s analogy’ Mice poison is 99.99% nutritious, but it kills mice.’ Page 1744 Comman mans reference Bible.
This explains who Hoffman really is the poison or leaven in the context of the notes. (Gal 5:9 , note 2.)

  • Have you met David Hoffman in person? Have you seen him preach? I doubt it. If you haven’t why would you criticize or try this man of God before adequately interrogating him? Why not load up your car and spend a little time personally with him? Are you afraid that he is indeed a true man of God? Check him out in depth with questions, answers, and feedback. Do you have the guts or do you you just want to sling stones at an Indiana farm boy? My wife and I took a 500 mile unannounced trip to Northern Indiana to get to know him. Maybe you critics need to do the same thing. That is, if you got the guts. Too busy? So am I…

  • Hell is for every sinner that sins.

Revelation 9:20-21; 16:9, 11 demonstrate that repentance is still available, even if they won’t.
