Reuters reported:
France has been among the countries worst affected by an unprecedented global spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly called bird flu, that has disrupted supply of poultry meat and eggs and sent prices rocketing in many parts of the globe in the past years.
The ravages caused to its flocks and fear that the virus could mutate into one transmissible to humans prompted the government to launch the nationwide vaccination campaign, making it the first poultry exporting country to do so.
The first shots were given on Monday morning to ducks on a farm in the Landes, a region in southwestern France, in the presence of French Agriculture Minister Marc Fesneau.
In total, some 64 million ducks will have to be vaccinated over a year for a total cost of 96 million euros ($102 million), of which 85% will be financed by the state, producers said.
“This vaccination plan … is a world first: its goal is to protect all farmed birds and should put an end to the preventive slaughter of animals, which no one wants to live with anymore,” duck and fois gras makers group CIFOG said in a statement.
In response, the United States imposed a trade barrier on imports of French poultry that began on October 1st, as a preventative measure to stop the virus from potentially spreading in the U.S. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in a statement that inoculated birds may not manifest signs of infection, making it very difficult to detect if the birds are diseased or not.
The first campaign has been a success thanks to the close cooperation between all parties involved – the vaccine suppliers, veterinarians, agricultural organisations, the government and the poultry holders themselves.
We can now build on that success and the experience and knowledge we gathered with the first action. The government initiates a new campaign in order to avoid the avian influenza virus to enter and spread in our country.

France has been discussing implementing mass vaccination campaigns since 2022, Le Monde reported in December that year.
But vaccination may prove to be ineffective. In January of this year, CIDRAP reported ‘an avian flu outbreak at a duck farm on which the birds had been vaccinated in November 2023 as part of the country’s initial rollout of the poultry vaccine, which marked the first in Europe.’
‘In early December, France’s agriculture ministry ordered that farmed ducks in high-risk areas receive a third vaccine dose because of new scientific evidence. It’s not clear, however, if the ducks on the outbreak farm had received the third dose,’ CIDRAP added.

Regulars of The WinePress will know that I have repeatedly have been warning this very thing would happen in response to some new purported zoonotic threat that would become the “next pandemic,” specifically that of bird flu; and now France is doing just that…
To me, this is only the beginning. These campaigns will definitely grow in 2025. The goal, as I have warned many times, is that this “next pandemic” will be used to justify the mass culling of livestock, wildlife and pets, and consolidate private farms; and remove meat from the store shelves, and raise prices to astronomical rates.
