Recently the Jewish nation deployed the world’s first-ever swarm of drones in battle to hunt down Hamas terrorists.

The drones were powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and received no manual input/control from them to carry out the objective.

After protests began in May by the Palestinians, Hamas began to fire rockets into Israel, which resulted in an eleven-day conflict with 256 people killed in Gaza and 13 more in Israel.

According to the Israeli military, over 4,300 rockets were fired from Gaza towards towns and cities.

In retaliation, Israel did not launch ground forces but did launch air and artillery strikes.

In its attack, it was revealed that Israel used drone swarms to carry out their operations, according to New Scientist.

If confirmed, they are certainly a notch up in the incremental growth of autonomy and machine-to-machine collaboration in warfare.

Previously, drones have flown and been guided by a manual operator from a remote base.

The AI drone swarms are designed to make decisions on their own. Even if some drones were to malfunction or be destroyed, the drones continue forth on their mission and readjust accordingly.

‘The machine learning system is fed with data sourced from satellites, other reconnaissance drones, and aerial vehicles, as well as intelligence collected by ground units. Unit 8200 of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Intelligence Corps has developed algorithms using geographical, signal, and human intelligence data to identify these strategic strike points,’ according to The Sun.

The IDF has been utilizing supercomputers and AI to identify Hamas’ locations of activity, and launch strikes to eliminate any strategic striking points.

The IDF has yet to confirm any of the specifics of these autonomous strikes.

Israel is not the only nation to have been working on these drone fleets: the United States, the U.K., China, and Russia as well.

A campaign called Stop Killer Robots launched by Human Rights Watch is one of group of some that are warning about the possible concerns of these AI drones, such as committing war crimes.

There are serious doubts that fully autonomous weapons would be capable of meeting international humanitarian law standards.

[These include] the rules of distinction, proportionality, and military necessity, while they would threaten the fundamental right to life and principle of human dignity.

[17] As for us, our eyes as yet failed for our vain help: in our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save us. [18] They hunt our steps, that we cannot go in our streets: our end is near, our days are fulfilled; for our end is come. [19] Our persecutors are swifter than the eagles of the heaven: they pursued us upon the mountains, they laid wait for us in the wilderness.

It was only a formality that the wicked government across the world would be racing to build AI weaponry. We were once told the AI technology would never get this far: if you believed that, then you were sold a lemon, because the new race is on to build autonomous war machines.

Isn’t amazing that with all the intelligence God gave man, man uses it to invent better ways to kill and enslave others?

[15] Their feet are swift to shed blood: [16] Destruction and misery are in their ways: [17] And the way of peace have they not known: [18] There is no fear of God before their eyes.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
