Two cities in the United Kingdom will be launching a pilot project where 30 Brits will be getting paid £1,600 (≈$1985.00) every month completely for free.
In late-July of last year the government of Wales also launched a UBI project that would also pay up to 500 people £1,600 each month over the next two years, and are allowed to spend the money however they want though participants will still be taxed, The WinePress reported.
Nevertheless, for this more recent trial 30 participants will be issued checks each month with no stipulations and allowed to spend it however they wish. This will take place in central Jarrow, in north-east England, and East Finchley, in north London, The Guardian reports. They are allowed to continue their normal daily lives as they did before the experiment begins.
This is reportedly part of a larger project to understand what people will do with guaranteed income for doing nothing. ‘The trial is being run by think tank Autonomy,’ Sky News reports. ‘Researchers will work with the recipients to understand how the money affects their lives.’
A control group will also be monitored to record the experiences and sentiments from those who do not get promised free money.
Will Stronge, the director of research at the thinktank Autonomy, further explained why they are heading this project and paying participants £1,600.
This is a substantial amount. Universal basic income usually covers people’s basic needs but we want to see what effect this unconditional lump sum has on people’s mental and physical health, whether they choose to work or not.
Our society is going to require some form of basic income in the coming years, given the tumult of climate change, tech disruption and industrial transition that lies ahead. This is why building the evidence base and public engagement now is so important, so the ground is well prepared for national implementation.
All the evidence shows that it would directly alleviate poverty and boost millions of people’s wellbeing: the potential benefits are just too large to ignore. With the decades ahead set to be full of economic shocks due to climate change and new forms of automation, basic income is going to be a crucial part of securing livelihoods in the future.
He explained
Cleo Goodman, a co-founder of the initiative Basic Income Conversation, commented on the news of this new pilot plan, stating:
We’re hopeful that this plan will result in the first ever basic income pilots in England. No one should ever be facing poverty, having to choose between heating and eating, in one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Basic income has the potential to simplify the welfare system and tackle poverty in Britain.
The calls for UBI continue to grow in the U.K. Last year a letter signed by 285 government officials and MEPs addressed to the newly selected Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, urging him to consider implementing UBI, blaming The Covid War for sky-high inflation and cost of living crisis. At the same Sunak was already discussing and pledging to work on a central bank digital currency (CBDC) for England, touting their benefits and necessities, The WinePress reported.
The UK has faced an unprecedented series of crises over the past two years.
Both the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis have revealed that our households are woefully unprepared to withstand the kind of shocks to the system that are increasing in both frequency and intensity.
A Universal Basic Income, paid to everybody regardless of income, wealth or work, could be part of the solution.
It would give everybody a basic level of security, and would stop anyone falling into destitution when the next crisis hits.
Jonny Douglas of the UBI Lab Network said in a statement at the time
Other parts of the world are considering UBI in some fashion. Oregon state lawmakers have considered a bill that would pay homeless people $1000 each month with zero strings attached. Dozens of other cities in the U.S. have also been documented and caught siphoning and reallocating Covid-related funds to subsidize UBI programs.
AUTHOR COMMENTARY
Allow me to tell you the results of this study before it’s completed:
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.
There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
Proverbs 13:11, Proverbs 21:20
What’s the point of this study: did not the Covid stimmy checks when people locked down and prevented from going to work teach you all that you needed to see? Here in the U.S. once stimulus was sent out, coupled with extended unemployment checks of $600 a week, auto and mortgage loans were put into forbearance, and tenets did not have to pay rent; we saw these people buying and leasing new cars, mortgaging homes they have no business getting involved with, buying new expensive clothing, furniture, appliance, gadgets, and much more.
Many people would run to these payments if they are offered up again to the broad masses, and most of it will go to more vain garbage and many will still remain in perpetual debt, content with being a slave the rest of their lives.
When an official and national (eventually global) UBI is implemented, it will be done through CBDCs. Most people are indifferent to it now, but they will accept the CBDCs when the economy completely goes thermal nuclear and the people are left destitute and begging for bread.
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

Nothing new, we got this in sweden called “socialbidrag”.
It keeps the sluggard not getting a job and sinners keep smoking and drinking.
And they demand more. Each year because the cash is not enough.
Hi, thank you for your comment, what do you think of this piece of news as a Swede? https://winepressnews.com/2023/06/05/sweden-to-host-worlds-first-sex-competition-judging-who-can-have-sex-the-best/
Its sick and perverted. And they will probably make money on it, by broadcasting it on the internet.
Its porn and normalisation of it.
personally i don’t think it will be enough due to the cost of rent in the uk and the housing crisis.
