First reported by Axios on Friday night: ‘The State Department has notified Congress “informally” of an $8 billion proposed arms deal with Israel that will include munitions for fighter jets and attack helicopters as well as artillery shells, two sources with direct knowledge tell Axios,’ the outlet explained.
However, the publication did not elaborate on what “informally” means, Kyle Anzalone for Antiwar.com noted.
According to Axios, the sale ‘includes AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles for fighter jets to defend against airborne threats, including drones. The sale also includes 155mm artillery shells and Hellfire AGM-114 missiles for attack helicopters. [It] also includes small diameter bombs, JDAM tail kits that turn “dumb bombs” to precision munitions, 500-lb warheads and bomb fuzes.’
The deal still requires support from the House and Senate.
A source acquainted with the arms deal said the State Department told Congress the package is aimed at “supporting Israel’s long-term security by resupplying stocks of critical munitions and air defense capabilities.”
A U.S. official stated: “The President has made clear Israel has a right to defend its citizens, consistent with international law and international humanitarian law, and to deter aggression from Iran and its proxy organizations. We will continue to provide the capabilities necessary for Israel’s defense.”
The Financial Times noted that ‘Israel’s offensive in Gaza has killed more than 45,000 people in the enclave, according to Palestinian health authorities.’
Antiwar.com also noted that ‘Israel receives most of its weapons, 78%, from the US, and officials in Tel Aviv have acknowledged it would not be able to sustain its military operations with continued US support for more than a few months. Since the October 7 attack, the US has provided Israel with $22 billion in military aid.’
Antiwar.com further points out that ‘Biden has been routinely criticized by Republicans in Washington and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for not providing Israel with enough military support.’

The Biden administration will absolutely get the support it needs in Congress and the Senate, no doubt about it. In July, when Netanyahu addressed Congress, that maniac received so much applause and standing ovations it was truly a pitiful sight to behold, though unsurprising. Al Mayadeen reported:
