Trump Nominates Paul Atkins As SEC Chair Paving The Way For Tokenization

President-elect Donald Trump has nominated Paul Atkins to head the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), who is very friendly to cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets, after the SEC Chair Gary Gensler announced he will be stepping down from his position as he is very much anti-cryptocurrency.

Trump announced the decision on his social media platform Truth Social.

Paul is the CEO and Founder of Patomak Global Partners, a risk management consultancy. As Co-Chairman of the Digital Chamber’s Token Alliance since 2017, he has worked on and studied the digital assets industry.
Trump said in his post

According to The Digital Chamber, the company is “a team of former regulators, industry experts and lawyers, [and] serves as the leading policy voice for tokenized networks, apps, and issuers. We champion the power of tokens to revolutionize asset digitization and transfer, ensuring it’s secure, transparent, and efficient.”

The company added: “The blockchain world is a maze of innovation, but murky regulations are slowing us down serving as a major impediment to investment and innovation. Digital tokens wear many hats – from investments to platform utilities to payment methods. This multifaceted nature confuses traditional regulators, leaving innovators in a lurch, unsure of which rules to follow.”

Cited by the Financial Times, Atkins said that the SEC “should be there with its ear to the ground to… accommodate activity that’s not criminal and then enable markets to flourish, because if it challenges incumbents and it helps to bring down costs for investors and for people who are trying to raise capital, I mean that’s the reason why we have financial markets.”

Coin Telegraph noted that crypto markets have surged since Trump’s re-election and Gensler’s resignation. Trump campaigned he’d make the U.S. the “crypto capital of the world.”

This selection should come as no real surprise as Trump has made it VERY clear that it is going the crypto route full steam ahead. More specifically, all roads lead to tokenization, something I have thoroughly documented was going to be the case. Like it or not (and you should not like it), that’s the direction it is going.
