Kamala Harris Will Not Attend Al Smith Catholic Charity Dinner, First Candidate To Not Attend Since 1984

The news was first reported by CNN yesterday. Harris will be the first presidential candidate since 1984 to not attend the spectacle. Harris will instead be campaigning in a battleground state on October 17th, the night of the dinner.

The event is an honor of Al Smith, a former Democratic 4-year Governor of New York and first Roman Catholic to run for President in 1928. Smith lost in a landslide to Republican Herbert Hoover. The event began when John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon spoke at the dinner in 1960. However, the dinner did not feature presidential candidates during the 1996, 2000 and 2004 election years.

The event normally features candidates cracking jokes about themselves and each other, whereas in 2016 Donald Trump ripped into Hillary Clinton in a non-jovial manner.

In 2020 the event was held virtually because of the Covid pandemonium, but both Trump and Biden gave their pleas to catholic voters but did not roast each other like previous events.

The last event was hosted by Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, and Mary Callahan Erdoes, the CEO of the asset and wealth management division of J.P. Morgan-Chase. Traditionally, Dolan sits between the two candidates during the dinner.

Neither Harris nor Trump had formally committed to attending this year, but both were expected, according to comedian and emcee Jim Gaffigan.

Gaffigan promoted the dinner on social media on September 12 in response to Trump’s announcement that he would not debate Harris again.

“I guess the next and final time we will see these two kids together will be at the 79th Al Smith Memorial Dinner on October 17th,” Gaffigan wrote of Trump and Harris.

It was not to be.

Harris announced Saturday that she had accepted an invitation from CNN to debate Trump on October 23, less than a week after the dinner, challenging the former president to another high-stakes one-on-one showdown less than two weeks before Election Day.

“Vice President Harris is ready for another opportunity to share a stage with Donald Trump,” campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement. “Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate.”

Trump, who had occasionally suggested some openness to a second debate with Harris, argued Saturday that it was “too late” for another presidential face-off.

“The problem with another debate is that it’s just too late, voting has already started,” Trump said at a campaign rally in Wilmington, North Carolina.

It’s also worth reminding that last week Pope Francis, when asked, told Catholics to vote for the lesser of the two evils, claiming that both of them are not pro-life.

This is definitely an interesting plot point in this year’s Presidential Reality Show, soap opera dramafest [s]election, and I would not be surprised to see if Harris changes her mind or is forced to do so.

I personally am not going to put too much stock into this, but as it stands perhaps this is indicative of what the [s]election outcome will be. Either this means Trump wins by default, or it could mean that by Kamala not attending could mean she will be implanted and be used for the purpose of further igniting the right and trad cats that veraciously hate her guts. Either is plausible in my opinion, as it stands.

We’ll see what happens in November. No one knows who will win; and quite frankly I could care less at this point. I’m so sick of all the drama and sensationalism, and either one is just a puppet that is told what to do, and neither are really all that different when it comes to the military industrial complex and all that eclipses. Kamala has been copying a number of Trump’s pledges and promises anyway. This election, as far as I am concerned, is all about what face ‘they’ (the Jesuits) want to give the collapse, because this gravy train is coming to an end…
