Earlier this month, German metals and auto parts manufacturer Rheinmetall published record profits and expectancy for continued growth. The group reported a 91% operating profit in its financial report for the first half of 2024.
To close out 2021, the company’s market cap sat around a little more than $4 billion; but since the war in Ukraine Rheinmetall’s market cap rocketed to roughly $26.8 billion since last week. Clearly investors see potential for great returns on investment.
Armin Papperger, CEO of Rheinmetall AG, said of the company’s performance,
“The supercycle is clearly accelerating. In the second quarter of 2024 alone, our sales increased around 50 percent and our result more than doubled. Positive margin effects are significantly increasing our profitability. With positive development in all areas, we are well on our way to reaching our annual targets.
“We have never seen such growth. We also expect annual sales growth of around two billion euros in the coming years. This very positive development is only possible because we invested early and have been following a strategic plan since 2014 – when Crimea was invaded. We massively expanded capacities, made acquisitions and are now also additionally building new plants in countries like Lithuania, Hungary, Romania and Ukraine. Forward-looking partnerships in key markets are also bringing us closer to our goal of becoming a global defence industry champion,” Papperger added.
Papperger also told the Financial Times that he expects profits will continue to rise annually in “the coming years.”

Indeed, “war is a racket,” once said “two-time U.S. Medal of Honor recipient Major General Smedley Butler used to say.
Rheinmetall is just one company raking in the dough; we know that U.S. weapons manufacturers and defense contractors are always seeking new ventures to make money, as weapons and military production make up the majority of what little this country manufacturers to begin with. Current Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin used to sit on the board of directors at Raytheon, the second largest U.S. defense contractor. Think there is no conflict of interest?

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
