In April, NIST published supplementary standards for their digital ID guidelines, expressed a document called the “Incorporating syncable authenticators.” In it provides auxiliary guidance for agencies to use authenticators like passkeys that work across different devices.
In a blog post explaining the changes, NIST explains that a “syncable authenticator is any cryptographic authenticator that allows for the private key to be cloned and stored separate of the authenticator to support use of that key across different devices (for example, syncing).” The group adds: “When implemented correctly, they provide a phishing-resistant authenticator with many benefits, such as simplified recovery, cross device support, and consumer friendly platform authentication support (for example, native biometrics).”
Part of the official document stated:
“Typically, this authentication type protects a cryptographic key in hardware or software that requires activation through a second authentication factor, either a memorized secret or a biometric characteristic. Protecting the private key from unauthorized exposure is fundamental to the security model of a multi-factor cryptographic authenticator. This traditionally includes ensuring that private keys are not exportable or cloneable. However, this paradigm is starting to change. Notably, a new series of authentication protocols and specifications has led to the rapid adoption of syncable authenticators (commonly referred to as ‘passkeys’), which allow users to synchronize (i.e., duplicate) a private key between different devices.”
This past week, Biometric Update reported NIST, in collaboration with the the Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT), and Georgetown University’s Beeck Center for Social Impact + Innovation, the trio have worked together to forge the government’s “digital identity guidelines to better support public benefits programs. These programs assist beneficiaries with essential needs such as food, housing, and medical expenses.”

Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director Laurie E. Locascio emphasizes the importance of balancing access and security in benefits delivery. She noted that different populations face varied needs and barriers, which this collaboration aims to address by bringing together diverse communities.
The plan is for the project to utilize NIST’s process of community engagement to gather input from federal partners, state benefit program administrators, IT and cybersecurity leaders, digital identity experts, technologists, advocates, and individuals with direct experience in the public benefits system.
Lynn Overmann, executive director of the Beeck Center, highlights the goal of developing human-centered solutions to improve government services, particularly for vulnerable populations. She expresses pride in partnering with NIST and CDT to enhance security, privacy, and equity in benefits applications.
The goal is to create voluntary resources for public sector organizations, including a profile of NIST’s Digital Identity Guidelines (Special Publication 800-63), to help evaluate authentication and identity proofing practices for specific benefits.
Alexandra Reeve Givens, President and CEO of CDT, stresses the need for carefully developed identity management solutions focused on equity, privacy, and security. She emphasizes that people should access public benefits without technical barriers or privacy compromises and trust that the systems will function fairly and securely.

Leo Hohmann noted in his report covering this:
“So, they put out their fake studies, and then clamor about the “growing call for accountability” safer, more secure and more equitable distribution of public benefits, and eventually the forced digitalization will include private benefits too, such as private bank accounts, your corporate paycheck, your applications for various educational opportunities, etc., it will all be tied into your digital ID.
“And then, when as many “volunteers” are signed up as possible, meaning there are no more dumbed-down government-trusting drones willing to digitize themselves, that’s when the voluntary aspect will be yanked out of the equation and they start to remove the carrot and use the stick. Sign up for this digital ID, or else…”
The handlers in charge are waiting for the right time to rug pull this current world monetary system and implement the new one in the midst of the chaos and helplessness that’s created; forcing the masses to beg and grovel for that oppressive government to save them. The digital IDs, followed by subsequent CBDCs and tokenization, will be offered as the solution; and if people want to return to their ‘normal’ lives they must obey and accept these “solutions.” ‘Want your social security and medicare, and access to the money that was lost during the “glitch” in the system? Just sign up for the digital ID and you’re good to go!’

Remember: upon the announcement of the creation of the European Union’s digital ID wallet, the Commissioner Thierry Breton said, “Now that we have a Digital Identity Wallet, we have to put something in it.” This is referring to the CBDCs and tokenization of all assets, all readily available and stored in digital ledgers and using blockchain technology.
