Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response at the Department of Health and Human Services, Dawn O’Connell, said on a press call that the agency is in conversation with both Moderna and Pfizer about making avian influenza vaccines using messenger RNA-based technology.

Biotech firm’s and pharmaceutical giant’s stock prices rose today after it was revealed a number of these companies are in talks with the U.S. government to produce new vaccines to treat bird flu, as it is being reported that new cases in people are cropping up around the world.

Reportedly, a second farmworker in Michigan has contracted H5N1 avian flu after interacting with dairy cows. The first reported case of Highly-Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in humans was reported back in March when a Texas farmworker purportedly contracted the virus. NBC’s Today reported:

‘On Wednesday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed a second human case of H5N1 in a farmworker on a dairy farm in Michigan. Cows on the farm had been infected, and the individual tested positive after an eye swab was sent to the CDC. The nasal swab turned up negative, indicating the patient had an eye infection, as only eye symptoms were reported.’

The CDC is still saying that the risk level of H5N1 in people is low. “Based on the information available, this infection does not change CDC’s current H5N1 bird flu human health risk assessment for the U.S. general public, which the agency considers to be low,” the CDC said in a press release.

In their press release, the CDC provided several current recommendations, which include:

  • People should avoid close, long, or unprotected exposures to sick or dead animals, including wild birds, poultry, other domesticated birds, and other wild or domesticated animals (including cows).
  • People should also avoid unprotected exposures to animal poop, bedding (litter), unpasteurized (“raw”) milk, or materials that have been touched by, or close to, birds or other animals with suspected or confirmed A(H5N1) virus.
  • CDC has interim recommendations for prevention, monitoring, and public health investigations of A(H5N1) virus infections in people. CDC also has updated recommendations for worker protection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE). – (This includes items such as facemasks, eye googles and face shields, gloves, and more).

This news of a second case has received international attention.

Meanwhile other nations are starting to report cases of bird flu. Earlier this week Victoria, Australia, reported their first case of bird flu. The Victoria Department of Health said in a statement: “The case occurred in a child, who acquired the infection in India and was unwell in March 2024. The avian influenza virus was detected through further testing of positive influenza samples that takes place to detect novel or concerning flu virus strains, as part of Victoria’s enhanced surveillance system. Contact tracing has not identified any further cases of avian influenza connected to this case.”

Moreover, another case of H5N1 has been reported in South Korea on a duck farm in the southern part of the country. Yonhap News reported:

‘[This marks] South Korea’s first highly pathogenic avian influenza case since February 8, when a case was reported at another duck farm in Asan, 90 km south of Seoul. The agriculture ministry said it is currently taking preemptive measures, including controlling entry to the farm, as well as culling affected birds.’

But specifically with the reported case in Michigan, the move has generated a new wave of fear that the virus is spreading more than is being reported. Intelligencer ran a headline earlier this week titled, “We Don’t Know How Bad Bird Flu Is Getting.”

Now pharmaceutical and biotech firms are in the process of creating new vaccines in response to the continued spread. Yesterday Barron’s published a report titled, “Moderna and Pfizer In Talks With U.S. To Make a Bird Flu Vaccine.” The outlet revealed in detail what a number of other drug companies are rushing to do as well. The following are excerpts from that article:

Moderna and Pfizer are in talks with the federal government over a potential avian flu vaccine program, the head of the U.S. government’s pandemic response administration said late Wednesday.

The disclosure came amid a run-up in shares of vaccine makers. Moderna stock spiked in Wednesday trading, climbing 13.7% over the course of the day amid swelling concerns over the avian influenza outbreak in U.S. cattle.

After the market closed, the Assistant Secretary of Preparedness and Response at the Department of Health and Human Services, Dawn O’Connell, said on a press call that the agency is in conversation with both Moderna and Pfizer about making avian influenza vaccines using messenger RNA-based technology.

“We continue to have active conversations with both manufacturers, and the negotiations are ongoing,” O’Connell said. “We are looking to wrap this up and have something to say very soon.”

Moderna confirmed to Barron’s that the company is in discussions with the federal government about “advancing our pandemic flu candidate.”

O’Connell also said that the agency last week had begun the process of converting 4.8 million doses of avian influenza vaccine from bulk product in the government’s stockpile to finished doses ready to be administered.

She said that the filling of the doses would not disrupt the production of seasonal flu vaccines. “It takes a couple of months to be able to fill and finish vaccine doses,” O’Connell said. “So we had these already in hand in bulk, but thought it mades sense, given what we were seeing.”

The stock, however, keeps going up. Moderna shares have climbed 20% just this week, and 45% since the end of last month. In an email to investors midday on Wednesday, Mizuho healthcare equity strategist Jared Holz wrote that new worries over bird flu were having a major impact on vaccine stocks in general, and Moderna in particular.

“MRNA has already gained $20bn in market cap in just the past week alone, we believe in large part to the increased focus on this bird-flu situation,” Holz wrote.

Other vaccine stocks are climbing as well. Shares of CureVac, which, like Moderna, develops messenger RNA-based vaccines, were up 21% on Wednesday. Shares of Novavax, which makes a Covid-19 vaccine, were up 6.3%. Even vaccine stalwarts like GSK and Sanofi saw their American depositary receipts climb slightly on Wednesday, and Pfizer shares were up 2%.

In response to a question from Barron’s earlier on Wednesday, Moderna confirmed that it is testing a vaccine that targets an avian influenza virus in the same family as the one causing the current outbreak in a continuing Phase 2 study. According to a federal registry of clinical trials, the trial should be completed in July.

The number of dairy farms with confirmed cases of the avian influenza virus known as H5N1 continues to rise, and was up to 51 as of midweek, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Public health officials have long feared H5N1 for its potential to cause a human pandemic, and the unprecedented spread of the virus through these domestic cattle herds has put federal agencies on high alert.

As Barron’s reported in April, the U.S. has had a program in place for roughly two decades to prepare to vaccinate Americans if H5N1 or a similar virus were to begin spreading among humans. That program, however, likely wouldn’t be able to produce enough doses to protect the entire population in a pandemic emergency.

Unlike the 2020 federal government effort to roll out a Covid-19 vaccine, in which the government funded private companies to develop their own shots, the pandemic influenza program is aimed at creating a government shot using components made under contract by multiple manufacturers.

Today, federal stockpiles hold some finished vaccine doses, and building blocks that could be used to make many more. GSK and CSL Seqirus, under contract with the Department of Health and Human Services, are currently testing vaccines that target a strain of H5N1 that is closely related to the one currently circulating in dairy cattle. Sanofi is also involved in the government program.

Federal officials told Barron’s in March that in the event of a pandemic, they would be able to supply 135 million doses over the course of four months. Since the vaccine requires two doses, that would only be enough to inoculate roughly 68 million people in a country of more than 330 million.

O’Connell’s announcement Wednesday indicated that the government has begun to prepare that supply for a potential rollout.

Reports on biotech firm’s stocks rising has made a number of headlines. Market Watch reported, “Moderna, CureVac, other vaccine stocks jump as new human bird-flu cases reported in U.S., Australia;” and others such as the Financial Times reported, “Shares in biotechs surge as two new human bird flu infections emerge.”

A sampling of some of the headlines sounding-off about this

It is also worth noting that there are a number of social media posts that have gone viral that depict Donald Trump appearing to rail against the bird flu narrative, claiming that it is a tool of the Democrats launched in time before the elections. However, these claims come from an older video Trump made and was not referring to bird flu.

An example of one of these misinformation posts

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

Well, it was only a formality. We knew this was going to be the inevitable play because we’ve been explicitly discussing this – those who follow The WinePress – since 2021, so none of this should surprise you.

Let me clarify this: this “bird flu” stuff is just pure propaganda, I don’t believe any of it: I don’t believe there is a virus and that it’s spreading and mutating, neither did I believe “Covid-19” was real. I am simply reporting on the propaganda and then debunking it with my commentary, as to maintain some level of professionalism. I have to say this because people still get confused, and I have people emailing me accusing me of falling for the lies and spreading the fear. NO, I have to use their language so we are all on the same page, but OBVIOUSLY it’s propaganda and lies.

But, just as with the Covid scam, they simply have to speak it into existence and it is now so, and people obey it. The media is the “son” of this unholy trinity of the military industrial complex, where the “father” government says, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him,” if you get my allegory there. I’m not trying to scare you, I’m trying to WARN you and help you see through the bull crap! But, alas, most will refuse to get it.

“Bird flu” – the unfounded propaganda narrative – is being used to justify another round of pandemic nonsense we lived through these past several years; especially to justify culling mass amounts of livestock, wildlife and pets, and vaccinate it to death; and yank meat and dairy from the stores, and further consolidate the agriculture sector and drive small farmers out of a job by leaving only the bigs.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [2] Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; [3] Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

Most people have already forgotten about that nightmare… which means they are primed and ready to accept a second round of shellacking. Go back to an ominous warning we got just a little over a year ago from Professor David Halpern, chief executive of the Behavioural Insights Team (BIT), also known as the “Nudge Unit”, contracted by the British government to push Covid propaganda, said in an interview that now that all these absurd restrictions and protocols were drilled into the obedient masses’ heads, they have now been programmed to act on command when the same notes are played, calling it a “habit loop.”

They might protest, ‘do we really have to do it?’ [Showing] good healthy skepticism. But once you’ve exercised those muscles, they’re more likely to be reused again.

We figured out a lot more than we did before, so we’ve practized the drill and we could redo it.

Imagine if it happens, not across the whole population, but it happened in an area, a city, and you said, ‘it is really important to do the following thing.’

It is much easier to now imagine that that city would then say, ‘OK, we better do this, stay at home and wear masks when we’re out or whatever. He said

The propaganda ministry is now playing those same notes again. The tactics they are deploying right now echo what they did during the early days of the Covid stuff in late-2019 and early-2020, just slowly and steadily warning about this mystery disease that was spreading, and eventually mutated and kept surpassing all these made-up goalposts the media came up with. It’s propaganda: learn to spot it!

Be prepared for another wave of nonsense. If you fall for it again then the jokes on you. Warn others that are not totally out of their minds at this point, and network with farmers so you can still get access to clean meat and raw milk.

1 Corinthians 16:13 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. [7] Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
