A Kiwi biotech firm in Christchurch, New Zealand, is looking to create and commercialize lab-grown fruits, in hopes that this could be a way to curb food shortages and climate change.
Plant & Food Research, the lab producing these faux foods, claims ‘growing food from cells in the laboratory there are opportunities to use fewer resources and improve the environmental impact of food production.’
Dr. Ben Schon, the Food by Design program leader for the firm, says in their initial trials utilized cells collected from blueberries, apples, cherries, feijoas, peaches, nectarines and grapes. ‘Much like lab grown meats, the challenge is to create an end product that is nutritious and has a taste, texture and appearance that consumers are familiar with,’ the company added in their press release.
Cellular horticulture currently has a smaller profile than cellular agriculture and aquaculture, but we believe this is a really exciting area of science where we can utilize our expertise in plant biology and food science to explore what could become a significant food production system in the future.
In order to grow a piece of food that is desirable to eat, we will need more than just a collection of cells. So we are also investigating approaches that are likely to deliver a fresh food eating experience.
The aim isn’t to try and completely replicate a piece of fruit that’s grown in the traditional way, but rather create a new food with equally appealing properties.
Dr. Schon explained
Direction co-leader Dr Samantha Baldwin added in a statement that this process could help with global food production.
Globally, we are seeing rapid growth in both the vertical farming, controlled environment growing as well as cell-cultured meat spaces. It’s possible that cell-cultured plant foods could be a solution to urban population growth, with requirements for secure and safe food supply chains close to these urbanized markets.
The Guardian picked up on this news and took it a step further insinuating that this technology could be used to address climate change. In a statement to the outlet Dr. Schon told the paper:
Here in New Zealand, we’re good at growing conventional horticultural crops, but looking into the future, there’s a lot of change coming in the world with population growth, increasing urbanization and climate change.
Dr. Baldwin also told The Guardian,
I’m not sure we realize that we are going to need to produce more food for a bigger population but with less areas to grow and under increasing pressure from a non-conducive climate. Business as usual might not be able to address that need.
Moreover, in an interview with New Zealand’s 1 News, Baldwin stated: “The reason we’re doing this is we’re all aware that the world is changing. We’ve got climate change which is going to cause quite disruption to our growing systems and where we live and how we grow and where we grow.”
Tim Pow, a Canterbury Blueberry grower, doubts this endeavor and says it solves a problem that does not exist.
Lab grown fruit seems to be making a solution to a problem we don’t have. We have plenty of fruit to supply to the market.
What are we putting into these lab grown fruit to make them nutritional that we’re then putting another heap of stuff in there to keep them nutritional or to counteract that and that would be our biggest concern.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

The blueberry farmer said it best: this is a solution to a problem that does not exist.
The idiocy of this whole movement of lab-grown, cell-cultured, 3D-printed food is simply just flat retarded. There is no logic and sound reasoning behind any of it.
How on God’s green earth can this halt climate change, when you consider all the electricity and “dirty energy” it therefore takes to produce all this slop, and the time and money it would take to replicate this on such a massive commercial scale?

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

Is it just me or those green thing look like buggers? 🙂
They’re such hypocrites & liars. And, it might as well be buggers…’what comes out of the mouth & heart’….and right after Jesus offended the Pharisees with their added rules & formalism, saying this, he underlined it by leaving Israel for Tyre & Zidon & mingled with the ‘dogs’!! Marveling at finding real, godly humility, & faith there when Israel had been so blessed as to have the oracles of God, yet dishonoring & despising it, corrupting & exchanging it for vain idolatries & philosophy, the establishing of extra-biblical traditions of men. Mammon.

Mt 15:10 ¶ And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
Mt 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
Mt 15:12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
Mt 15:13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.
Mt 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
Mt 15:15 Then answered Peter and said unto him, Declare unto us this parable.
Mt 15:16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
Mt 15:17 Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
Mt 15:18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Mt 15:19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
Mt 15:20 These are the things which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.

Looked like a few sprigs of parsley to me, & a waste of time coming of a HUGE expenditure of dirty energy & overhead etc to enrich the cronies & inner core at the expense of all. Reminded me of that lithium deposit they want to exploit up there in Nevada, demanding all sorts of resource depletion, including water in water-poor Nevada, releasing a ton of ‘carbon’, & polluting with impunity: heavy metals, lithium exposure itself dangerous…. For ‘clean’ energy. RIIIIIIIGHT.

Go back in time to the old lady in the first Wendy’ commerical: “where’s the beef”. These people are just plum stupid.
