United States To Deliver Depleted Uranium Tank Rounds To Ukraine, Which Russia Views As A Nuclear Threat

The United States has recently signaled that they plan to send depleted uranium shells to the battlefields of Ukraine. The United Kingdom already provided some of their own in March, in a move which President Vladimir Putin and Russian officials see as the use of nuclear weaponry.

Depleted uranium is a very toxic substance, which according to the journal Scientific American:

Used as ammunition, it penetrates the thick steel encasing enemy tanks; used as armor, it protects troops against attack. And when it was used in the Gulf War and later during the Allied bombing of Yugoslavia and Kosovo, depleted uranium (DU) was hailed as the new silver bullet that would solve most of the military’s problems.

After the end of Operation Allied Force, however, several Italian soldiers were diagnosed with leukemia. Politicians and the media soon forged a link between the disease and depleted uranium use. They further drew a parallel with Gulf War Syndrome, and in no time, depleted uranium became the Agent Orange of the Balkan conflict.

Scott Boston, a defense analyst at the Rand Corporation and former Army artillery officer, confirmed this latest gift to Ukraine to the Wall Street Journal.

The projectile hits like a freight train. It is very long and very dense. So it puts a great deal of kinetic energy on a specific point on an enemy armor array.

James Stephen Heappey, the U.K.’s minister of state for the Armed Forces, said the radioactive munitions “are now under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense does not monitor the locations from where DU rounds are fired by the AFU in Ukraine.”

[There is] no obligation on the UK to help clear up depleted uranium rounds fired from Challenger 2 tanks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

However, we remain committed to helping Ukraine emerge from this war secure, prosperous and free and we are supporting a range of activities to meet Ukraine’s immediate needs, restore essential infrastructure and services, and lay the groundwork for its longer-term recovery and post-war reconstruction.

He explained

When it was announced Britain would be sending depleted uranium earlier this year Putin and others were not pleased with the news, warning that they see this as using nuclear and would cause them to take appropriate action in return.

I would like to note that if this happens, then Russia will be forced to react accordingly, bearing in mind that the collective West has already started to use weapons with a nuclear component.

Putin said at the time

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova also said at the time:

We consider the plans officially confirmed by the UK Department of Defense for the transfer of depleted uranium shells to Ukraine as a step fraught with a further escalation of the conflict.

The British supply of weapons to Kiev, especially such sensitive species, leads to further destabilization of the situation and pushes the prospect of finding mutually acceptable interruptions. They are contrary to international law.

The radioactivity, high toxicity and carcinogenicity of such weapons are well known. Among the consequences of using depleted uranium – the growth of oncological diseases among the population and the enormous environmental damage for the Ukrainian territory where it will be applied.

The civilians of Serbia and Iraq, who still feel the impact of such actions, can tell about all this. It is unlikely that the leadership of the UK itself, which was directly involved in these conflicts, forgot about this.

Obviously, the British made a choice in favor of causing destruction and maximum damage to the population of the front regions. An additional cynicism is given to the reasoning of the British leadership on their readiness to contribute to the “restoration of Ukraine.”

In general, another evidence was received that Ukraine for Great Britain – is nothing more than a landfill for confrontation with our country.

Yugoslav scenario. These shells not only kill, but infect the environment and cause oncology in people living on these lands.

By the way, it is naïve to believe that only those against whom all this will be used will become victims. In Yugoslavia, NATO soldiers, in particular the Italians, were the first to suffer. Then they tried for a long time to get compensation from NATO for lost health. But their claims were denied.

When will they wake up in Ukraine?… Their benefactors poison them.

Reacting to the most recent deployment by the United States, Putin added during a conference discussing the conflict and the losses Ukraine has suffered, that Russia also has depleted uranium and hinted that they would deploy their own as well.

There is no need to act preemptively. We have a lot of such ammunition with depleted uranium, if they are used, we also reserve the right to use the same ammunition. We have them in stock, we just do not use them.

Putin went on to say that if the West is interested in peace and ending the conflict, then they need to stop sending weapons to Ukraine. “And we understand that the key to solving problems [in Ukraine] is on their side. If they really want today’s conflict to end through negotiations, they only need to make one decision – to stop the supply of weapons and equipment. That’s it,” Putin said, reported by Sputnik.

The West is pumping Ukraine with weapons, it is really so, nobody hides it. On the contrary, they are proud of it.

Putin added

Putin also discussed the many losses Ukraine has been taking in their counteroffensives, noting that Russian forces have destroyed or captured large portions of Western-supplied artillery.

The enemy was not successful in any of the directions. They have heavy losses.

[Ukrainian forces] lost more than 160 tanks [during their counteroffensive], while we lost 54. Some of them can be recovered and repaired.

According to my calculations, this is about 25% or maybe 30% of the volume of the equipment that was delivered from abroad, that is about it. It seems to me that if they objectively calculate them, they will agree with this number, but as far as I have seen from open sources, Western sources, that is almost what they say, I think. So the offensive is underway, and the results today are what I just said.

As for armored vehicles, there are even more serious [losses]. They have lost over 160 tanks and over 360 armored vehicles of various types during this time. This is just what we register. There are also losses that we do not see, which are inflicted by high-precision long-range weapons on clusters of personnel and equipment. So in fact, there are more of them, these losses, on the part of Ukraine.

The United States and NATO nations are determined to keep this conflict prolonged and worsened, with zero considerations for peace, and ultimately this thing could seriously blow up even wider; but a massive false flag will need to be launched in order for this to happen.

I have not been reporting on a lot of this war’s battles, as it is hard to tell what is truth and what is propaganda, but from what I’m gathering Ukraine is getting spanked and their forces have basically been annihilated, and are now running on fumes. If things continue at its current pace Russia might actually conquer Ukraine by Summer’s end or early Fall; unless of course the U.S. and NATO go in there and blow this whole thing up wider…
