A new study reveals that American’s favorite soda pops, juices, and other beverages contain a high number of different heavy metals that are known to cause all sort negative health effects.
The study published in the Journal of Food Composition and Food Analysis found “25 elements in 60 soft beverages: single fruit juice, mixed fruit juice, plant-based milk, artificial/soda, and tea purchased in New Orleans, Louisiana, and commercially available in the United States,” study authors wrote in the abstract of the study.
‘All told, seven of the 25 elements exceeded drinking water standards in some of the drinks, including nickel, manganese, boron, cadmium, strontium, arsenic, and selenium. While lead was detected in more than 93% of the 60 samples, most contained very low levels, below 1 part per billion. The highest level (6.3 micrograms/kg ) was found in a lime sports drink, though that’s below both EPA and WHO standards for drinking water,’ the university wrote in a press release.
Mixed fruit juices and plant-based milk frequently contained elevated concentrations of most of the elements.
While toxicity is unlikely unless individuals consume a large volume, moderating consumption of these beverages is required, especially to protect infants and young children. Regular monitoring of these chemicals in beverages is required for food safety and to provide sound nutritional advice.
The team wrote in their abstract
These toxic elements include things like arsenic, cadmium, lead, uranium, lithium, aluminum, and a plethora of elements; and some that are necessary for optimum health in trace elements, but are found to be in fairly higher amounts than they should in some cases.
‘Two mixed juices had levels of arsenic above the 10 microgram/liter standard. A cranberry juice, a mixed carrot and fruit juice, and an oat milk each had levels of cadmium exceeding the 3 parts per billion standard,’ researcher said in the press release.
Elements like cadmium, arsenic, and lead at elevated exposure levels can lead to certain cancers, skin disorders, high blood pressure, lung damage, digestion issues.
Tewodros Godebo, lead author and assistant professor of environmental health sciences at Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, noted the importance of this study due to the fact that there are so very little of them.
It was surprising that there aren’t a lot of studies out there concerning toxic and essential elements in soft drinks in the United States. This creates awareness that there needs to be more study.
People should avoid giving infants and young children mixed-fruit juices or plant-based milks at high volume. Arsenic, lead and cadmium are known carcinogens and well established to cause internal organ damage and cognitive harm in children, especially during early brain development.
We are curious to keep exploring what’s in our drinks and foods commercially sold to the consumers.
Godebo explained.
Hannah Stoner and Julia Ashmead, Tulane University students who were involved in the analysis, said they hope the results encourage consumers to think more about what they buy and drink.
I don’t think there needs to be fear. In toxicity, it’s the dosage that often makes the difference so everything in moderation. But this creates awareness that there needs to be more study.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY
Wishful thinking on the part of Stoner and the other researchers, unfortunately. Most Americans will turn a blind eye as they always do, and if there is just enough pushback, then Big Food, Big Drink, Big Water, Big Ag, and Big Pharma lobby the government to tweak the standards, definitions, and packaging, like they do all the time.
But this study only looked at just a fraction of the other problems and health concerns these drinks have. What about the water supply itself, and the fluoride, chlorine, bromine, mercury, arsenic, birth control and drugs in the water; what about the fake colors, the additives and preservatives; the fake “natural” flavors, the addictives, the MSG; what about the microplastics and chemical bleaching from the packaging; what about all the other GMOs, bleached and processed sugars and ingredients; what about the pesticides contained in the ingredients like glyphosate and so many others?
The list goes on but I think you get my point. This study, while important and informative, is only scratching the service.
Last year I did a report documenting how Coke and Pepsi products are used cheap pesticides in poorer parts of India. What does THAT tell you?

However, California could potentially ban a handful of toxic ingredients contained in many of these popular sodas and drinks, which could disrupt the industry and supply chain across the United States.
The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.
Proverbs 11:17
Do your own due diligence and study these things, for the food and drink standards in this country are lower than dinosaur bones in the earth! If you want to take control of your health and break out of the mind control haze – that keeps people dumb and are the roots causes of almost of these diseases we see and hear about – then cut the toxic crap out of your life.
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

We have an alexapure water filter. And a crystal quest water filter as well. We do not drink pop. We buy organic juices for our kids. I hope they are cleaner than the other garbage out there
