As monkeypox cases reportedly continue to climb around the world, the World Health Organization will reconvene for a second time to determine if the outbreak of monkeypox should be of concern to the world.
In mid-June The WinePress reported that the WHO would convene to decide if monkeypox should be labeled a public health emergency of international concern.
Ultimately the WHO decided to vote that monkeypox was a noteworthy global emergency.
‘But as the virus continues to spread, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus wants the committee to take up the issue again, based on the latest data around the epidemiology and evolution of the outbreak,’ CNN reported. ‘Tedros said Wednesday that he will convene the committee during the week of July 18, or sooner if needed.’
On monkeypox, I continue to be concerned by the scale and spread of the virus. Across the world, there has now been more than 6,000 cases recorded in 58 countries.
Testing remains a challenge, and it’s highly probable that there are a significant number of cases not being picked up. Europe is the current epicenter of the outbreak, recording more than 80% of cases globally.
I want to particularly commend those that are sharing videos online via social media channels, talking about their symptoms and experiences with monkeypox. This is a positive way to break down the stigma about a virus that can affect anyone.

The WP reported last week the United States has officially begun to release millions of monkeypox vaccines for the public and those most at risk, after long lines formed at clinics in New York of fearful residents looking to get immunity from the disease.

Will the WHO do something this time? I have no idea. Even if they did, a great portion of the masses are not going to fall for it, I feel: they will require a tons of sickness and packed hospitals, and heavier propaganda. It seems monkeypox is still in the ‘gray zone.’
