No, this is not a joke. Communities are pushing for more rivers, lakes, and mountains to be given legal rights to exist as a bonafide person.

Jean-Charles Pietacho of the Native American tribe the Innus believes that nature is a living thing and must be respected. But this level of respect has now evolved into something even greater.

In February the Innu Council of Ekuanitshit voted to recognize the Magpie River, a 186 mile (300km) river in the Canadian province of Quebec, as a “legal person,” according to a report by Aljazeera.

This designation provides Indigenous groups added tools to defend the river and prevent it from environmental harms. In the Innu tongue it is referred to as Muteshekau Shipu.

The Creator put us on this piece of territory called Nitassinan, which encompasses all these rivers, all these mountains, all these trees. The Innu people always believed that you had to protect the earth. It’s water – it’s life.

Pietacho. Chief of the Innu Council of Ekuanitshit, told Al Jazeera in a phone interview

The Magpie River sits on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and is well known for its strong rapids. The river currently has a single hydroelectric dam on it, but the provincial energy authority has no intention for further development.

Despite that, we didn’t feel secure, we didn’t have total confidence.

It’s very, very important for us to have arrived at this protection. It might be tested, but at least we have a majority – if not the entire region – that supports us.

This “citizenship” of a river is a first for Canada. The river was given the rights through the Innu Council of Ekuanitshit and a local body, the Minganie Regional County Municipality; however, it is unclear if this personhood would hold up in Canadian courts.

‘Among other things, the resolution affirms the river’s “right to live, exist and flow”, to evolve naturally, to be protected from pollution, to maintain its integrity, and to take legal action. It says “river guardians” will soon be appointed to ensure that those rights are respected,’ says the Aljazeera report.

Even though this is a first for Canada, other nations have been doing something similar in years previous.

The Aljazeera report notes that in 2017 the Ganges and Yamuna rivers in India would be granted legal status as a person. A year before that, Colombia’s Constitutional Court declared that the Atrato River was labeled as a “subject of rights.”

In 2008, Ecuador recognized ‘the right of nature to exist, maintain and regenerate.’

All persons, communities, peoples and nations can call upon public authorities to enforce the rights of nature.

The Constitution of Ecuador

The rights of nature, in the Ecuadorian context, is very much tied to the worldviews of various Indigenous groups … of emphasing the interconnectedness of ecosystems and the social world.

Maria Akchurin. Assistant professor of sociology at Loyola University in Chicago

I think it’s a great conversation to have, I think it’s extremely valuable and I think it can work in particular settings; but we should also be mindful that just having rights on paper doesn’t necessarily translate into concrete change on the ground immediately.

Maria Akchurin

But these are not the only rivers to have the legal status of a person: New Zealand has one as well.

In 2017 the New Zealand government recognized the Whanganui River as a “legal entity” in a negotiated settlement between the government and the Maori people. The legal entity is known as “Te Awa Tupua,” – “has all the rights, powers, duties and liabilities of a legal person.”

In 2014 the government also made a deal with the Maori leaders to give a former national park, Te Urewera, legal status. Additionally, in 2017, they also recognized Taranaki Mountain as a person.

In the United States similar proposals have faced tough opposition.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

[26] As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets, [27] Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

Jeremiah 2:26-27
[13] And the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mount of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had builded for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Zidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon, did the king defile. [14] And he brake in pieces the images, and cut down the groves, and filled their places with the bones of men. [15] Moreover the altar that was at Beth-el, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he brake down, and burned the high place, and stamped it small to powder, and burned the grove.

2 Kings 23:13-15

This nonsense is nothing more than thousand-years-old idol worship repackaged and rebranded: and it is absolutely insane. But that is where this is the world is at right now: water, trees, and rocks have MORE rights than you and I.

Therefore, because these rivers have been given legal rights to be a person, it now has “dual-citizenship” of not only being deemed a person, it now still has rights of being a part of nature (I am filling in the blanks). This means (“legally” speaking of course) if I went fishing in one of the rivers, I must be unlawfully trespassing, I am stealing, and if the river could talk it probably scream rape!

I say this all tongue and cheek, but if we are honest with ourselves: is what I just said too extreme and hyperbolic? I don’t think so. But these same demented nature worshippers value the “lives” of water more than they would a baby in the womb. These are the types of hypocritical sickos that value the life of a house cat more than their fellow man.

All of this reaffirms the prophecy of the King James Bible given in 1 Timothy 4:1-5.

[1] Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [2] Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; [3] Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. [4] For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: [5] For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

1 Timothy 4:1-5

Naturally, as this world descends even deeper into wickedness and perversion, more of God’s creation (which he declared man has dominion over (Genesis 1:26-28)) will be given some legal status or legal protection allowing the “conservationists” and rangers to put down real people like a wild beast for trespassing and “popping the land’s personal space bubble.” If these insane environmental laws did not exist, do you realize how much of an abundance of resources we’d have worldwide? But that is all part of the plan: use the pagan nature worshippers to further the agenda of getting the world eating artificial meats – something we have been reporting on in detail.
