Picnic has become a household name in its native Netherlands, where consumers can use the company’s mobile app to order groceries, which are then dispatched from strategically located distribution hubs and delivered to doorsteps by environmentally friendly electric minivans.

A couple of weeks ago The WinePress reported that The Netherlands – Europe’s largest producer of meat – is strongly considering reducing their livestock by at least 30%.

Now it is has been revealed that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust – an investment vehicle affiliated with Gates’ other non-profit organizations – is now funding hundreds of millions of dollars in a Dutch-based startup.

The e-grocery platform called Picnic just recently concluded series D funding, earning €600 million ($707 million). A few other previous investors also chipped in more money.

‘Picnic has become a household name in its native Netherlands, where consumers can use the company’s mobile app to order groceries, which are then dispatched from strategically located distribution hubs and delivered to doorsteps by environmentally friendly electric minivans,’ explained Jack Ellis for AgFunder News.

This new round of funding will be used to hire more staff for the technical aspect of the company, expand its electric vehicle fleet, grow their reach across Europe (emphasis on France and Germany), and build autonomous fulfillment centers.

Picnic says that they can keep their prices very similar and competitive with brick-and-mortar supermarkets, because of its vertically integrated ‘own the supply chain’ business structure. In February of last year, the company stated they have saved over 150,000 kilograms of carbon emissions, and saved customers at least 500,000 hours in visiting a physical grocery store.

The Iron Ox

But Bill Gates is funding even more agricultural related technologies and services.

An investment group funded by Bill Gates himself called Breakthrough Energy Ventures – a group focused on climate to help reach net-zero emissions by 2050 – was the leading donor to a startup called Iron Ox, who just received over $50 million in series C funding.

Other investors such as  Crosslink CapitalR7 PartnersPathbreaker Venturesi/o VenturesAmplify PartnersENIAC VenturesTuesday VenturesAt One Ventures, and Y Combinator, invested in the company. This brings Iron Ox’s totals to about $100 million.

Agenda Absolute Zero: You’ll Be Enslaved And Be Happy

Iron Ox is am agricultural company that produces sustainable crops with man and artificial intelligence.

AgFunder News reports,

Founded in 2015, ‘Iron Ox operates two other farms: one at its headquarters in the San Francisco Bay Area, and a greenhouse just south of that in Gilroy, California. The Lockhart farm will be Iron Ox’s third and largest facility, and will grow a mix of leafy greens, berries, and herbs. Like the company’s other locations, it will be a semi-autonomous farm relying on both humans and robots to execute tasks around the farm. For example, human growers will inspect and prune plants, while robots and robotic arms can handle more repetitive tasks like seeding and moving grow trays.’

Every joule of energy, every gram of nitrogen, every liter of water should create a calorie. [That] seems great in theory, but the problem is, understanding the plant at that level of detail is a little beyond our understanding today.

Iron Ox CEO Brandon Alexander told AgFunder News

Alexander says that their systems can scan each plant on the farm to generate 3D imagery that scientists and AI technicians can search for problems, such as discoloration, tip burn, or aphids. Or if a pallet is detected as being nutrient deficient, the system can then properly assess what actions need to be taken.

The plant itself gives a lot of early warning signs about how it’s doing.

You don’t just want cool images; you want to actually do something with it.

The interesting thing about our farm is that there is the data collection side but there is also the taking action side. And so obviously we have robots and robotic arms, but we also have our own dosing system and we developed our own hydroponic system. The reason for that was because we wanted that level of granularity, so that if we notice an issue on one pallet, we want to be able to respond.

Hydroponics is a great first step and an important step, but I don’t think we should applaud ourselves yet. We have to take that next step, we have to get to zero waste. And that means an understanding of the plant itself in a way that we just have to push the envelope on.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out.

Proverbs 28:11

The WinePress has been reporting on the different actions Gates has been up to, such as him continually buying up more and more farmland. So it would make sense why he would fund grocery delivery services and companies that reproduce GMO crops that are made to look so clean and pristine. And let’s not forget his push for the world to adopt his lab-grown and plant-based meats.

All of which – as noted in this report – are fulfilling the goals of Agenda 2030 and 2050 Absolute Zero.

More recently, The WP reported that Bill Gates plans to build tons of mRNA factories – the tech used in some of the Covid death shots. And as noted in that report, scientists are already developing foods with that tech in them. So I am sure you can imagine Gates will be all over that in a heartbeat.

For some odd reason, these types of reports do not do quite as well as compared to others. I guess people are so naïve and willfully ignorant they don’t care what happens to their food source or where it comes from: just as long as they satiated for the time and preoccupied with their social media, then everything’s all “hunky-dorey.”

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
