Israel Implements GPS Quarantine Tracking System

Israel is stepping up their Covid-related isolation protocols by now tracking and tracing all those who are in mandatory isolation.

On Sunday, September 19th, tens of thousands in quarantine received a text message courtesy of the Israel Police with a link to provide their GPS location so they can be tracked live, according to the the Public Security Ministry.

‘The tracking system — developed by the Israel Police with the assistance of the Public Security Ministry — was expanded after the successful completion of a pilot program in recent weeks,’ according to the Israeli-based i24 News.

However, if people in isolation choose not to disclose their location will be permitted to do so, but the Israel Police “will carry out increased supervision activity in the place of isolation,” the government explained on their website.

These added restrictions amongst others have been implemented due to reported outbreaks and fears of the Delta variant.

Public Security Minister Omar Bar-Lev said this service is “essential” for “streamlining” the enforcement system during the isolation process, so less physical security is required.

I recommend anyone who receives a message to click on the link and confirm the activation of the temporary location. The location information that will be shared with us from the agreement will not be stored and will be used solely for the purpose of immediate location.

Even Israelis with at least two doses of a Covid vaccine returning from foreign travel are required to isolate at a bare minimum of seven days with a negative PCR test on the seventh day, or wait 14 days.

Those who have already received the newly required third dose are exempt, or have recently received the second dose within the last six months.
