The following report is from Study Finds:
Eating yogurt can help tackle arthritis, type 2 diabetes, and even stress, according to what scientists are calling a “stunning” find. Researchers from Stanford University say fermented foods like yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese, kimchi, and kombucha tea boosts good gut bacteria and seems to help prevent inflammation — which can trigger diabetes and arthritis.
Study authors add eating these foods led to an increase in overall microbial diversity in the gut, with stronger effects from larger servings. The levels of 19 inflammatory proteins – which are markers of inflammation – also decreased.
One of these proteins, called interleukin 6, has a connection to conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, type 2 diabetes, and chronic stress.
This is a stunning finding. It provides one of the first examples of how a simple change in diet can reproducibly remodel the microbiota across a cohort of healthy adults.
Dr. Justin Sonnenburg, PhD, an associate professor of microbiology and immunology, in a university release.
High-Fiber Diets ‘Universally Beneficial’
The researchers made their discovery during a study comparing the effects of high-fiber and high-fermented food diets. While high-fiber diets have a link to lower rates of mortality, none of the 19 inflammatory proteins decreased in participants eating a high-fiber diet. Foods high in fiber include legumes, seeds, whole grains, nuts, vegetables, and fruits. On average, the diversity of their gut microbes did not change for high-fiber eaters.
We expected high fiber to have a more universally beneficial effect and increase microbiota diversity. The data suggest that increased fiber intake alone over a short time period is insufficient to increase microbiota diversity.
Dr. Erica Sonnenburg, a senior research scientist in basic life sciences, microbiology, and immunology at Stanford.
We wanted to conduct a proof-of-concept study that could test whether microbiota-targeted food could be an avenue for combatting the overwhelming rise in chronic inflammatory diseases.
Dr. Christopher Gardner, professor of medicine at Stanford.
The researchers analyzed blood and stool samples collected during a three-week pre-trial period, the 10 weeks of the diet, and a four-week period after the diet when the participants ate as they chose. Those who increased their consumption of fermented foods showed similar effects on their microbiome diversity and inflammatory markers which chimed with previous research showing that short-term changes in diet could change the gut microbiome.
Fiber Also Helps Break Down Carbohydrates
The results also showed that greater fiber intake led to more carbohydrates in stool samples, pointing to incomplete fiber digestion by gut microbes. The researchers say their findings were consistent with other studies which suggested that the microbiome of people living in the industrialized world lacks fiber-degrading microbes.
It is possible that a longer intervention would have allowed for the microbiota to adequately adapt to the increase in fiber consumption. Alternatively, the deliberate introduction of fiber-consuming microbes may be required to increase the microbiota’s capacity to break down the carbohydrates.
Erica Sonnenburg
The researchers now plan to conduct studies in mice to investigate the molecular mechanisms behind how diets change the microbiome and reduce inflammatory proteins. They also aim to test whether high-fiber and fermented foods work together to influence the microbiome and immune system.
Another goal is to look into whether the consumption of fermented food decreases inflammation or improves other health in patients with immune and metabolism diseases, and in pregnant women and older people.
There are many more ways to target the microbiome with food and supplements, and we hope to continue to investigate how different diets, probiotics and prebiotics impact the microbiome and health in different groups.
Dr. Justin Sonnenburg
The findings appear in the journal Cell.
AUTHOR COMMENTARY
Many studies have long since proven that fermented foods are great for your health. Additionally, other things such as apple cider vinegar and sauerkraut are also very good for your health.
There is also something else that is fermented and is can be healthy for you, but comes with a contingency.
Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities.
1 Timothy 5:23
Wine (real wine, not the cheap fake stuff), is very good for your health but in moderation, as the verse says. However, there are plenty of scriptures that warn against it, both Old and New Testaments. Drinking wine is an issue of liberty among Christians.
[20] For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. [21] It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak. [22] Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth. [23] And he that doubteth is damned if he eat, because he eateth not of faith: for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.Romans 14:20-23
So if you have no issues with wine (like me for example), then drink a little every once in a while for health benefits. If you are not in favor of wine, and cannot stand it or have had a history with it, then by all means stay away from it; and, to the wine drinkers: do not offend another man’s weak conscience by flexing your liberty onto them, and conversely, the non-wine drinkers are to not make everyone conform to their needs and desires.
If you are a non-wine drinker, then I highly recommend drinking kombucha and apple cider vinegar as part of your daily lifestyle.
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

Sauerkraut is a favorite, I haven’t made too many different types of fermented veggies, but it does take a fair bit of salt. That being said I am surprised they didn’t attack fermented foods from the standpoint of high sodium.
lol! They HAVE! But it was commercial salt & processed sauerkraut in which the good & the bad biota were killed….leaving it without the mineral rich benefits of real salt (the salt part hinders & kills the bad bacteria, preserves! think Bible), and a dead food of limited benefit. Like their pickles. Two perspectives on that: good cheap slave food that keeps them alive, but not flourishing or strong; or the wise-guys outsmarting themselves! Like Bryan said in a recent video, they lose track & knowledge along the way & end up falling into the hole they or their forefathers dug for others. And such were some of you might be added. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————– Relatively old lady here. When I was a child everyone had gardens & preserved food, mom’s in ‘good’ families stayed home with their families. The morality was more Masonic & Catholic than Christian….but the ethic & tradition was still strong. There were farm families on both sides of my family, & when they sold the farm my Dad grew up on, we got a few of the big crocks for kraut-making & big iron pots for rendering lard. We had a detached garage that was big enough Mom used it for a sort of summer kitchen & we filled one of those crocks. There are practical issues like the need to keep it covered with cheese cloth to keep the flies out etc….and it’s stinky, but it works. The years following mom canned it & inadvertently killed a large part of the benefit, though it was cleaner & less smelly. As I was re-learning, I bought some higher dollar crocks with weighted lids, water seals etc…..but really all you need are large mouthed canning jars & loose-fitting lids. Remember to burp them once in awhile. —————————————————————————————————————————————- I remember how they would run on their tv ‘sit-com’s indoctrination tv a lot of things that looking back had an agenda….but one that sticks in my mind with regard to this was a spate of episodes in the detective-police documentaries like Adam-12 where there was a ‘mystery’ involving a sudden flurry of deaths, & it ends up being some crying gramma bringing in her botulism-infected jar of canned mushrooms which she’d been gifting people with, or real-mayonnaise with eggs potato salad at the family reunion. I didn’t know ANYONE who was dumb enough to try canning mushrooms, or to take that kind of dish somewhere not on ice (now I suspect that real, farm-fresh eggs would present much less risk of anything dangerous anyways). Mushrooms are a totally different ballgame & requires intense heat, pressure-cooking & processing, like meat to preserve by that means, best dried if you’re going really low-tech…..but that went over the heads of those already disconnected from the land. High acid foods are the easiest & safest to can. Nobody wanted to risk hurting or killing their family, neighbors or friends (BLM & Antifa weren’t around yet & the transformers had to play things real low key, work sideways through entertainment, education, etc) ….so it stuck in a lot of peoples’ minds & the younger generation got ‘smarter’. (Not to mention it was a whole lot less work, & purposely kept cheaper so that people became dependent upon the big consolidated food processing companies, while the knowledge was lost.) —————————————————————————————————————————————— The training & indoctrination of a dependent, dumbed down & demoralized ‘herd’ to manage was priority number one. Freedom isn’t easy, but it’s worth it…John 8, and the fake is subtle, but deadly along the way & in the end….2 Peter 2. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Another thing that came to mind about grapes & fermentation was how the Jews would put grape leaves on top of their crocks of fermented pickles, onions & garlic to help keep them crisp & keep them from spoiling (wrong kind of bacteria coming into the culture). Oak leaves have similar tannins & have been used for that, too. Oak is antiseptic. Old-timey dentists would pack infections with white oak powder. (These days they’re also a kind of magnet for ticks & Lyme disease, oak trees, that is ….so, it’s always something in this fallen, sin-cursed world; & always a challenge & reminder that we’re not home yet; & to the lost that things aren’t as rosy & getting better & better as the merchandisers & seducers of men would have them think. The ‘thieves’ type essential oils & herbs can help even with that [repellants like lavender, cedar, tea tree, clove, peppermint and combinations]. The Lord has provided)
In agreement with Mitchell. Very good information on fiber & fermented foods in this article. Most, like the fellow in the video, however, lean into vegetarianism & soft liberalism w/Eastern overtones, a bit effeminate (which such a diet contributes to), denying Genesis 9, Acts 10-11, and contributing to the philosophy & conditions leading to 1 Timothy 4 KJB. It is very subtle. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————— And it is the purview of the woman….nutrition & nourishing, caring for the health of the family rightly ordered…. as Proverbs 31 points out, so that may be part of the reason for that when the order gets distorted or violated. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————– Price noted the value of animal foods & fats, & how they sustained people still eating the old, unprocessed foods, prepared in traditional ways, & with a superior physiology & mental capacity. He also noted the diversity of diets that still sustained people in different settings & with different things available to them. I always found it to be a strong confirmation of God’s providence & mercy, & a bit vexing that they never give God the glory for any of it. Price was no Bible-believing Christian either, & though there is solid science ….observable, measurable, repeatable: evidencing God’s law, wisdom & power….those following his nutritional observations & science are Darwinists like him, and more & more rank pantheists & new age types of extreme ecumenism like the Bollinger’s, Mercola etc, drawing in all manner of cults loosely connected with Christianity, Judaism, and all the world’s religions & cults. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————– Nourishing Traditions, a cookbook/health traditions book by Sally Fallon & Mary Enig (two women who studied these things, specializing in fats & lipid nutrition, bursting the low-fat, no fat and high carb diet promoted by the medical establishment & food industry) gently & subtly led many a Bible-less or Bible-lite homeschooling mother into new age craft, & to the new effeminate ‘jesus’ & pantheistic at-one-ment ‘spiritual but not religious’ world spirituality. They do it by blurring lines, merging ideas & worldviews without noting distinctions & differences: commonality, common ground, communal, community, communism, communitarianism, etc. Anti-absolute truth, antichrist Babylonian corporatism which is common to Eastern & Western tyrannies alike. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————– For example, in that book, and many others, they use the dialectic Pasteur/Christian vs Bechamp/enlightened pagan ‘choice’ blanket categorizations, and by equating how the elites behind the medical establishment abused & used what Pasteur actually discovered; and setting him up (or whatever men paint him up to be) as the strawman ‘Christian’ —————–then selectively noting what Bechamp got right regarding the probiotics of fermentation etc & the healthful effects in the body & working by God’s design (which they never point out: attributing that to ‘mother nature’, the earth, the body’s wisdom and on & on in blasphemous imaginations ……….they were quite effective at drawing people into old Erasmus Darwin’s love & affinity for the filthy pagan philosophies with their high view of man, and lots of wiggle room for sin. When it comes to cooking & romanticizing it, it’s generally toward epicureanism & away from stoicism. (Acts 17 & Athens, the Pharisees & Sadduccees falling into the same rough categories though the power of philosophy is the lie & constant revisionism, changing definitions, rules, laws, terms: relative truth bringing bondage, confusion & destruction in the end). ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————- They left out the part about where Bechamp & co promoted the idea of life from non-life, people believing that rotting meat bred worms spontaneously, or chamber pots rats. Just like they do when they are romanticizing shamanism, the ‘ancient Egyptian wisdom’ or whatever. If they can find a Christian who has gone beyond or edited the whole truth & Bible attempting to fight those systems, or some abuse…..they’re sure to weave that into the tale, too. ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Great care is required & constant biblical proving when studying fermentation & such, as it is co-opted by those promoting communist (actually Babylonian) type ‘natural’ health & the attending spirituality, often described in terms of ‘magic’ and craft. There’s a fellow named Sandor Katz who constantly refers to fermentation as craft & magic. Then that slides right into the mushroom enthusiasts, & the attempts to draw people towards drunkenness & mind-altering, mind-opening substances through epicurean cooking or by attaching it to ‘natural health’. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————– Note that they are very deceitful, & great care is required when researching these things. I have learned in my own self-care for the cancer that I must always, always, always do a separate search on any recommended herb, substance or preparation method for ‘mind-altering’, ‘psychotropic’ etc, because these deceived & ‘enlightened’ ones being published view initiating people into their ‘enlightenment’ as a positive: they have no qualms about lying & using deceit to that end, taking advantage of people & calling it ‘karma’ sorting the elect from the non-elect, etc. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————– With that said, I am not totally against the use of alcohol. 90+proof vodka is sterile insofar as not adding any alien or harmful biota, & using it to tincture (soaking to extract the biochemical nutrients/substances God designed that plant to have, then straining out the herbs & keeping in a cool, dark place) is good practice in my book. The alcohol content carries it straight to the liver, increasing the potency & benefit; and also preserves the strength of the herb better than drying etc. You can also use vegetable glycerin for that purpose, though that requires a low, slow heat in a water bath…and has more room for error. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————– Some have seen the addiction of alcohol at its worst, or take Proverbs 23 (interesting number there) & 31, and the New Testament’s ‘be ye sober’ more seriously than others, & make the choice to totally avoid a problem by avoiding alcohol themselves, or causing another to stumble by inadvertently developing a taste for alcohol in a child. I respect that. Romans 14-15; 1 Corinthians 8. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— I would also note that it is a matter of liberty, and wisdom. Unless you are making your own wine, vinegars, etc: what you can buy commercially is night and day from anything beneficial as biblical wine was. Much more potent. Grapes, and particularly dark-skinned grapes, with the seeds, have powerful phytonutrients like resveratrol and things they don’t even have isolated, named or understanding of yet. That portion of their benefit may be preserved in wine. Personally, I choose to incorporate the cleanest (in terms of gmos & pesticides etc) dark-skinned grapes that I can find into my regular diet, along with the cottage cheese/fresh flax oil emulsion which the German Dr. Budwig recommended, & other nutrient & phytochemically dense foods. —————————————————————————————————————————————————– In season I eat what seeded Concord grapes I can raise & purchase locally, freezing some whole in the smaller canning jars to extend the season a bit. There was a cultic Christian South African woman who promoted a grape fast & diet for cancer. It does fight cancer, but not for the reasons she superstitiously & mystically surmised: but due to the phytochemicals of God’s merciful provision & design for us, even in this fallen & while wrapped in this corruptible & dying flesh. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————- But the alcohol and sugar contents in commercial wines is well beyond that of the old wines’, & that should be noted. The lighter colored wines will be less beneficial. And, then there is the issue of gmo’s and glyphosate. Just be aware as you make your choices. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————– With regard to vegetable ferments, sauerkrauts are the easiest & most failsafe, as well as being amongst the more beneficial, ferments. It’s not hard to do, & from there you can branch out into relishes, etc. Learning the good smelling sour of a good ferment as opposed to rot you wouldn’t want to consume; and researching which foods are more difficult to properly ferment & preserve, prone to botulism, etc. I prefer to stick with the simple, tried & true…..and I have a much more respectful attitude towards those ‘dumb, barefoot & pregnant’, slandered forebears of mine. It requires attentiveness, knowledge, steady work planning out days & seasons in advance, and an entirely different attitude to manage a kitchen & home by these principles than the typical rush through the drive-through, phone call to the pizza shop, or toss in the microwave at the last minute. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— One last thing about studying these things: there is a low-key, but constant, sneering at the ignorant & puritanical, self-limiting & -denying Christian view (using their terminology)…..usually wrapped in words like allopathic etc and set in the dialectic either/or framework. They have a ‘better’ way, & sometimes that is wrapped in a subtle, counterfeit ‘better’ Christianity. If it were pure science, or Christian in any sense of the word: it would never be published & promoted at all by the centralized & controlled media, & what is promoted as ‘Christian’ is usually permitted because it has some fatal flaw in it, missing& utterly excluding the point of Christ & his Gospel, subtly redefining it, etc. ——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————- They seek to flatter the young about their greater insight, knowledge, sensitivity…. (because of the special, secret, more advanced, kinder & gentler, or whatever, knowledge that these gurus, priests, craftsmen etc have to offer the initiate proving worthy) ….while slandering their struggling elders: an appeal to self-righteousness by flattery is a very big part of the success of ‘Satan’s Favorite Philosophy’, and goes right along in the pattern of the ‘dialogue’ of Genesis 3. ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————- With regard to these things, because Rockefeller & some other humanists drew many Christians (& there were some legit caught up in this) into extreme movements like Prohibition; as Mann drew them towards State-controlled, nicolaitan Babylonian-Romish ‘public’ education…..Oliver W. Holmes towards the ‘new interpretation jurisprudence’ etc……………they make a LOT of hay with that & hinder, defile and/or destroy many souls. They point out the elders’ errors, over & over again in the course of ‘educating’/enlightening without the full context of circumstance & sin BIBLICALLY, and full counsel…………….and well-intended, even spiritually sensitive men and women, tend to overcorrect, or overreact into an equal & opposite error: especially if they’ve been hurt or disillusioned by those elders. They look to the men & circumstance, feelings etc….and not to Christ and the word of God, the whole picture & their own proclivities toward sin, blindness to devilish seductions, manipulations etc. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Ironically, that’s a failure in sober-mindedness! And I doubt that there are any who haven’t tripped over that one in their lives a time or two. Still good knowledge to acquire in these wicked days of ‘change’ & as God’s people are forced out & scattered. God is good to shake & shock us awake, opening our eyes, warning us of danger in the institutions of men as they wax worse & more antichrist by the word & Spirit. There are still corners & pockets where these things can be practiced, and you can still find some commercial artisan versions of these things. Wise to be picking up the practical knowledge along the way, though, & to consider adaptable means of acquiring & preserving healthful food on the move. Knowing the ‘why’s and the principles goes a long way. Pemmican isn’t the tastiest thing in the world, but it is one means of combining all of this traditional food wisdom into a portable package, including dried foods, fat, & fermentation as the stuff ages.
