The faux meat giant Impossible Foods recently announced that it is open to the possibility of licensing their proprietary “heme” formula to other companies, says Patrick Brown, founder and CEO of the company.
We have absolutely no aversion to doing that […] We just haven’t had the bandwidth to really think about those alternative business models. [But] I am more than willing to do anything that will actually accelerate the availability and competitiveness of plant-based foods across the board, and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we go in that direction in a couple of years.

According to AgFunder News, this consideration is important because Impossible Foods’ “heme” – their synthesized soy leghemoglobin from fermented soybean root extracts – is the ‘secret sauce’ that gives the company a distinct and different taste from its competitors.
‘The San Francisco-based company says that the compound plays a key role in the umami flavor profile of its meat substitute products, in addition to providing its Impossible Burger with the characteristic ability to ‘bleed’ like rare-cooked beef,’ says AgFunder.
Earlier this year, the Center for Food Safety, a health advocacy group, filed a lawsuit in a U.S. federal court that questioned the Food & Drug Administration’s (FDA) 2019 approval of Impossible Foods’ heme for consumption. The court ultimately upheld the FDA’s approval in a non-precedential decision issued in May of this year.
AUTHOR COMMENTARY
[1] Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [2] Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; [3] Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth. [4] For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving: [5] For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.1 Timothy 4:1-5
As this specific Bible prophecy is continually being fulfilled, the hypocrisy in which this passage speaks of also becomes more and more abundantly clear. So instead of eating a slab of clean meat devoid of steroids and that is fully nourished, now we have to synthesize fake meats that are horrendous for your health, and even manufacture garbage to emulate the blood in the package actual meat comes with!
I can’t make any guarantees, but if a meat-alternative monopoly such as this wants to license its ingredients to other companies, that would cause a major spike in other companies getting involved thereby growing the market and appeal.
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
1 Timothy 6:10
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
