If artificial intelligence is going to become the world’s new default tool for automation and information, the computers that run it are going to need power—and a lot of it. According to the International Energy Agency, “Search tools like Google could see a tenfold increase of their electricity demand” if they fully implement AI. Data already shows that a ChatGPT query uses nine times the energy of a typical browser search; if usage trends continue for cloud-based services, AI, and cryptocurrencies, 6% of the United States’s energy consumption will be caused by the data centers that power them.
At a 750,000-square-foot vacant manufacturing plant in southwest Memphis, Elon Musk’s xAI startup is currently building what could be the world’s largest supercomputer. Local utility company Memphis Light Gas and Water (MLGW) claims the project will create more than 300 “new, high-paying jobs” and result in approximately $500,000 of annual PILOT payments to the city.
In the meantime, residents have raised concerns about the local environmental impacts of its energy requirements—up to 150 megawatts, or enough to power around 100,000 homes—in a county where climate vulnerability is extremely high.
“This is a transformative moment for Memphis,” said Ted Townsend, president and CEO of the nonprofit Greater Memphis Chamber, during a press conference announcing the project in June. “I’m excited for all Memphians to have this identity where we are leading the artificial intelligence space.” Although his office refused to comment for Architectural Digest’s story, Townsend has previously said that the xAI project would be the “largest multibillion-dollar investment in the city of Memphis’s history.”
However, the details on its path to inauguration are murky. The deal was struck—and the facility is being constructed—on a respectively rapid timeline. When the project was publicly announced on June 5, it had already been inked with MLGW. Musk is aiming for full facility operation, including the construction of a new on-site electric substation to increase its current energy capacity from 50 to 150 megawatts, in 2025.
To do so, it first needs approval from the federally owned utility company Tennessee Valley Authority. Current “discussions include taking advantage of TVA’s demand response programs, which support load reduction during peak demand periods,” says TVA spokesperson Melissa Greene. Local environmentalists aren’t convinced that would be enough to support the extra demand on the city’s grid, and fear MLGW’s claim to use gas-powered “peaker plants” would only accelerate the area’s devastating pollution rates.
“We also have significant concerns that xAI’s demand for power will cause the Tennessee Valley Authority to operate its South Memphis gas plant at a higher capacity and lock in plans for an additional plant in the area, which would create even more air pollution problems for people living nearby,” says LaTricea D. Adams, founder, CEO, and president of nonprofit Young, Gifted & Green.
Water is another concern. The xAI supercomputer will require constant chilling, including through an evaporative cooling tower system that “consumes large quantities of water,” stated MLGW. Its facility would require an additional one million gallons per day.
When completed, the xAI supercomputer may surpass the size of its current leader, the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Frontier, nearly 400 miles away in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. There, climate vulnerability is in the 87th percentile, according to the US Climate Vulnerability Index. Memphis’s Shelby County is starting at a baseline 10% higher, the most vulnerable in Tennessee for risk of exposure to toxic chemicals and air pollutants.
“South Memphis, like many other communities of color, is on the front lines of climate change,” says Adams. “If TVA and Memphis leaders want to get serious about fighting the climate crisis, they must push for a firm commitment from xAI that its facility will stop running or relying on dirty, climate-warming gas plants and will instead invest in renewable energy and battery storage.”
MLGW claims it is working with xAI to procure more than 50 megawatts of battery storage this year. In that double-ended deal, those megapacks might be from Telsa.
AUTHOR COMMENTARY
I have already reported twice already that AI and quantum computing requires massive amounts of energy, and building these facilities and datacenters will only increase carbon emissions; which is a complete and embarrassing contradiction of the globalist dream to transition the world into AI-powered everything while saying the goal is to reduce emissions. Of course, I think we all understood from the beginning that reducing emissions is just a ruse.

Artificial Intelligence Use Will Cause Energy Consumption ‘To Dramatically Increase’
James 3:11 Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? [12] Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
And yet states continue to sell out to big tech to build these facilities, such as Indiana and Governor Eric Holcomb earlier this year. SEE: Indiana Becomes Growing State For Big Tech Data Centers And Crypto Mining, Vows The Grid Can Handle It
The grid in many areas will not be able to handle it in most places, in my opinion, and the additional costs will be levied on the people in the form of inflation, actual taxes, and increased energy bills.
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

Off-topic:
Jacob, can I upload some of your videos on my Rumble account, namely: the New Nazi youth, Pastor Greg Locke, and maybe Geoffrey Grider (who I can’t stand even looking at that guy’s thumbnail on that vid you have).
I’m figuring out a way to put together selected videos of Bryan, StrangerThanFiction’s, your clips/articles and other sources in a way that it’s easier for people to connect the dots from one place; linking them all in a hopefully, meaningful way that could make sense to some people that are getting overwhelmed with the pace of information building up online regularly; and just don’t take the time (and honestly, not enough mental capacity anymore from bad health, meds, real fake news and the rest of it) to dig into things, retain info and piece things together in a timely manner, considering that things are moving fast now. I’m letting you know here because this is the best way to reach you.
This is just a trial on my part, but maybe it will work. Sort of a nudge, rabbit hole or a jumping point. Maybe it’ll make more of an impact if I combine the videos and articles that directly tie in with each other topic-wise, in a narrowed-down manner, if I’m making sense?
I tried with my family/others with your recent articles, Bryan’s and STF’s work, but they implied that these are “fake news”. Our communication (my family) with emails; and the comment sections on public channels, where I include links are spread out. Plus so much confusion going on there with the comments’ section; and YT’s heavily censored now, very bogged down, comments disappearing—eats up so much of my time lately convincing people there of things.
If I unify yours, Bryan’s and STF’s work on Rumble in a simpler way, maybe this could have an effect; though I’m not expecting it to have a lot of views, realistically. But if it gets through even just one or two people, that’ll be great.
I’m still working on the video descriptions; they aren’t finalized yet to how I want them to be plainer. I’m making sure as well that I know the ins and outs of that platform.
Here are the links to my Rumble:

Whenever you’re able to share your thoughts about this would be great. Either way, if you decline, I’ll respect it and won’t hold any grudges.
(Also I need to correct a few inconsistencies due to hastiness and carelessness with our previous talks; after a lot of thinking, looking over my messages, digging into my memory/personal documents, and by confirming with acquaintances and family, certain events/dates that I forgot and got mixed up, when time permits, as I value our fellowship.)
Sure, you can reupload my videos.
Right on.
No doubt that Mr. Musk is demon motivated. He’s probably going to create the hologram Antichrist that everyone will worship in the Tribulation. Trump loves him now that he’s on his side.
Oh, but you see, Musk is one of the “good guys” like Trump who is working to help us! (sarcasm).
The main reason I’d like to be out of here is the election. It will be VERY dishonest/corrupt no matter who wins. It will also be chaos and civil war with the losers being upset. So it would be so awesome to be with the Lord before November.
They’re pulling the same nonsense with plans to build another Micron semiconductor factory here in NY in a residential neighborhood. Syracuse.com reported that these chip factories use 10 million gallons of water per day. It’s like what are they gonna do destroy another lake like they did with Onondaga Lake that became one of the most polluted lakes in the world? . The Syracuse.com article said they were gonna build pipes from Lake Ontario which is a good 30 miles away to Micron. Then I read that these semiconductor factories use as much electricity as I think it was Manhattan. Not to mention that according to the NIH, semiconductor factories are major greenhouse gas producers. The hypocrisy is astounding with these politicians screaming about climate change yet want to build a major greenhouse gas producer.
