On June 2nd, West Hollywood celebrated their annual WeHo Pride Parade and Mayor John Erickson sat down to talk about the festivities with local KTLA 5, which provided in-depth coverage of the event.
When asked what his favorite part of the parade has been, he claimed that it was seeing the kids in attendance.
I loved going out there and seeing all the kids just living and being there with their parents of all shapes and sizes and just seeing them having so much fun, giving them fans and throwing them candy and everything like that.
In a world like today, to have this right now front and center, we need it now more than ever.
He cheerfully quipped
Seconds later the camera focused on a firetruck with a number of practically nude men dancing on top, along with some transgenders who have undergone surgery. Another was dressed in a bear costume and the Mayor replied that he’s the guy wearing the costume.
These comments are identical to ones the Erickson has made before. The Post Millennial noted in a report:
Erickson’s sentiments echoed those he espoused just days earlier during an interview with queer magazine The Fight. After moving to West Hollywood in 2012, the self-described “very proud gay man” attended his first Pride parade. After being elected to the city council, he joined the parade himself.
“It was weird. It was amazing,” he told the outlet. “You get to see people. The best part is seeing all the kids and their families out there. It’s just utterly breathtaking.”
He went on to state that “even now in 2024 with all the threats we are facing, to sit there and say we’re here, we’re queer, get used to it … it’s still a political statement.”
Originally from the small town of Ripon, Wisconsin, Erickson felt different from a young age and came out as a gay man as a sophomore in college. He noted, however, that, “I probably knew I was gay as more versions of LGBTQ identity were coming out on TV.”
Last year participants in a New York Pride Parade drew heavy criticism and alert when they were seen on camera repeating, “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re coming for your children!”

Part of how we got here was due to folks out there saving the world, mothers not keepers at home etc, while their own went to Hell. This generation can blame, but still, the men won’t go out & confront the world street preaching or anything, totally focused on prepping for themselves & their own, & few want to really, honestly separate from the world’s vanity fair &gaming, ways & means etc to the word& ways of the Lord. That’s when the Lord has no choice but to step in: when he can’t raise up faithful men, & even the women go bad.
