The patent, published on May 23rd, says in the abstract that the invention would capture “real-time images” from the vehicle, and lockout unverified drivers and passengers. The biometric data would be stored in the vehicle.
The invention may be practiced in any vehicle with exterior cameras that are tied to a vehicle controller with image processing capability. Facial recognition may be retained as the primary device-free authentication modality, while a secondary authentication option can reinstate some benefits associated with the use of keypad code entry.

Based on the patent’s filings, the device would also for preset hand signals that could allow drivers access to the vehicle.

Ford Authority noted that while the idea is basic in its premise, ‘these systems don’t always work as intended – in fact, there are plenty of occasions when facial recognition doesn’t function properly, which is often the case with government applications like Global Entry – but the repercussions of being locked out of one’s vehicle as a result would obviously be a frustrating and inconvenient occurrence,’ the outlet highlighted.
The publication also noted that ‘in recent months, Ford has filed patents for a variety of ways we might be able to access our vehicles in the future, a list that includes ideas for enhanced contactless vehicle codes, a vehicle operator identification system, and a vehicular facial recognition system. Now, that list continues to grow, as this recently filed patent outlines an idea for a facial recognition entry system that may be used in future Ford vehicles, too.’
Last year, Ford filed a patent to allow semi-autonomous vehicles to repossess and drive themselves back to the dealer if the owner misses their payments.

Recently The WinePress reported on a story of a woman in Singapore who was arrested after the police tapped her car’s infotainment system to determine she was speeding, resulting in her serving five days in jail and suspended from driving for two years. All major car brands track and store literally every piece of data imaginable these days, including genetic information and sexual activity, and even “predispositions.”
Remember when things were simpler, more effective and cost less? Now we can’t have that: now, if you buy one of these cars (please don’t), you’ll need your face to access the vehicle. Lord only knows the problems this will create.

Yes, when cars had points and a carb, and no computers to run them, oh and ya had to set the timing. Old times when ya walked to the corner gas station and grabbed a 25cent Coke and a 15cent Popsicle, those were the days(1967-1975). A lot of ya weren’t born yet.
I would never buy a Ford anyway. Henry Ford was an antisemite who even published his antisemite rag in Michigan before WW2. Wasn’t too long after that Dearborn, MI was rewarded with a Muslim population that pretty much runs the place now
More importantly, the Ford is a lousy car as are Ford offshoots like Mercury, etc. I had a Mercury in the 60s that had the same brake problems as a Mercury I drove for someone in the 90s.
