Reduxx published a detailed piece on the story this week and spoke with the family, Todd and stepmother Krista Kolstad, and the “kidnapping” over their daughter who has been renamed as “Jennifer” in this article to protect their child’s identity.
The problems began in August, 2023, when the parents received letters in the mail that indicated their daughter has expressed suicidal actions at school. After it was revealed that Jennifer had allegedly consumed a number of toxic chemicals to kill herself, the parents took the child to the hospital to get checked out, revealing that she did not consume any of these substances.
However, the hospital noted that Jennifer identifies as a “male” and wished to be called “Leo.” They objected to this but the hospital did not listen and did what Jennifer requested. “We were very clear to the emergency room staff as well as [CFS] that this goes against our values, morals, and our religious beliefs,” she said. “They told me to call their lawyer if I have an issue as they will do what the patient tells them.”
Though gender transitioning is banned in the state, Krista says the hospital told her that “social transitioning” was a “grey area.” Jennifer was placed under a 24/7 watch to monitor and keep her safe, Krista says an aid was placed outside of Jennifer’s door who would repeatedly talk to Jennifer about “gender affirming” care, as staff would continue to get on Krista’s case about “respect” calling their daughter “Leo.”
Reduxx noted: ‘Krista describes Jennifer’s time in the hospital as a period of constant efforts to undermine her and Todd’s parental authority. In addition to not respecting their wishes to refer to Jennifer by her birth name, hospital staff refused to abide by any other requests, such as limiting Jennifer’s TV and phone time, encouraging her to do her school work, and not allowing her to have copious amounts of junk food.’
In a meeting with Child and Family Services (CFS), the option was presented to transport Jennifer to a care facility in Montana or one in Wyoming, which does allow for these types of gender transition surgeries.
Eventually CFS alerted them that a bed was available in Wyoming but the parents were hesitant. “We told them we wanted our questions answered before we accepted the bed,” Krista said. 10 minutes later CFS and police arrived at their home.
They showed up at our home to serve us with papers to take Jennifer out of our care. They told me the reason was that we were ‘unable or refusing to provide medical care.’ That’s just not true.

Fast forward a bit in the story – Reduxx gives more of the details:
On September 25, Jennifer was returned to Montana and placed in a Youth Dynamics group home where she has remained ever since.
“They called it ‘temporary legal custody,’ which means they have the say over where she is at, but we are supposed to be able to have the say over everything else. But that was not upheld. There were incidents of her getting vaccines we did not consent to, we were not told the name of the doctors involved, and she was allowed to shave her head,” Krista says.
Since Jennifer returned to Montana, Krista and Todd have had monthly court meetings along with Child and Family Services to determine next steps. The couple was assigned a public defender, who simply encouraged them to keep their head down until the process was complete.
“I am not trying to throw them under the bus… but all of their advice has been ‘play nice, just let her finish the group home program and then get her back in your care and move on with your lives.’”
But while the group home placement should have been just 6-9 months, the family’s situation took a dramatic turn for the worse during their hearing on January 19, 2024, when the court decided to hand custody of Jennifer over to Child and Family Services.
We were told that letting Jennifer transition and live as a boy was in her ‘therapeutic best interest’ and because we aren’t willing to follow that recommendation, the court gave CFS custody of Jennifer for six months. CFS is now going to place Jennifer in the care of her birth mother in Canada, who has never really been apart of her life. The judge said to us ‘you need to expect that reunification with your family may not be what you are expecting.’
Krista says.
“I have this letter from one of Jennifer’s previous counsellors that recommends that if [the birthmother] Christine wants to come back into her children’s lives, she should do unification therapy, there should be trial visits… all of this stuff should happen because the children reported her as being abusive,” Krista says.
In one section of the statement, the counselor describes one of the girls as witnessing “incidents of violence directed at an older sibling,” which involved Christine “throwing that sibling against the refrigerator after becoming enraged at her” for wearing her mother’s jewelry without permission. The child goes on to detail “incidents when her biological mother would punch, hit, slap, and kick her and her siblings.”
Child and Family Services was provided both the counselor’s statement and the text messages, but Krista said that nothing could be done to intervene in Jennifer’s placement.
“Our family has been destroyed by this. We have little to no contact with Jennifer and our rights as her parents have been trampled on,” Krista says. But despite the turmoil that has been brought into their lives, the couple says they will never stop trying to help their daughter come home.
Krista and Todd chose to defy a judge’s order to remain silent on the case in order to tell their story. They were set to appear in court today to respond to charges of contempt, but have had to delay the hearing due to a family emergency.
We will continue to fight. We will never give up on our daughter and for what we believe is morally right. We will continue to tell our story, even though we are currently in contempt of court, and try to keep other families from going through this. Our greatest fear is that our daughter is now going to become a victim of this system and eventually take her own life.
While Krista has expressed fear that the family’s legal avenues are limited, she has said that they intend to find any means they can against Montana Child and Family Services as well as the hospital where Jennifer was treated.
“I will also be looking at if we have a case against Youth Dynamics Group Home for socially transitioning our daughter against our wishes,” Krista says. “This is NOT about money, this is about standing up and telling our story so this does not happen to another family. We will fight to save our daughter no matter what it costs us financially or emotionally. That’s what parents do for their children.”
Governor Defends The Decision
After the story broke and gained national attention, Republican Governor Greg Gianforte defended the move on social media. He wrote on X:
To give them their best shot at reaching their full potential, children deserve to grow up in happy, healthy homes with loving families. Sadly, this ideal is not always realized.
Unfortunately, our society finds children whose life, health, and wellbeing are at serious risk from abuse and neglect, and only as a last resort, should they be removed from their home.
Consulting with the director of DPHHS and personally examining case documents. Lieutenant Governor Juras has concluded that DPHHS and the court have followed state policy and law in their handling of this tragic case.
Post Millennial also noted that ‘Gianforte went on to boast about laws that “ban permanent, invasive, life-altering medical procedures on children, like puberty blockers, hormonal treatments, and sex-reassignment surgeries,” in Montana, laws which were circumvented in the Kolstad’s case by having their daughter taken, against their wishes, to Wyoming, where such procedures are legal without parental consent.’

If this insidiousness can happen in red state Montana it’ll happen anywhere.
Everything is connected: the government, the schools, the medical establishment, the military industrial complex, big-tech, etc. – it’s all just this giant megalodon syndicate that the people allowed to take root, and are perfectly content with; being poked and prodded around like cattle with no rights.
The Governor’s response is the typical blasé, ‘he-don’t-care’ and ‘couldn’t-be-bothered’ response. His aids probably let him know what was going on and was advised to make some empty statement that tries to play both sides.
More and more as the days pass I continually await and long for the fierce judgment on this destitute nation.

Yes, they need prayers, tons of them.
This just sickens me. It happens all the time and is medical kidnapping. CPS is an international non-government agency that steals children from good families to foster them to be used for drug trials and sex trafficking or to just make money off the tax payer for their care. CPS is more likely to leave children in bad homes in danger as it helps them get more grant money to fund their operations.
They use fear tactics and lies to get parents to sign paper work. The legal system is in bed with them in many cases because they make money too from taking children from parents. It’s incentivised kidnapping in the legal system much like hospitals were incentivised to use only approved protocols on Covid patients.
In the autumn of 2021 our federal govt secretly passed a law thru the municipal govt of DC (controlled by Congress in Art 1 Sec 8 clause 17 of the US Constitution) to allow 14-17 year olds full autonomy over their health care choices, with parents needing their child’s written permission to access medical records. This law is enforced nationally using legal wordsmith that puts all Americans under the jurisdiction of the District of Columbia rather than their individual States. This is a loophole in our Constitution being used against us.
I saw this first hand with a friend whose 15 yo son was beat up by a group of boys. She planned to sue for medical costs and need his permission to get his medical records. We live in Maine. That was December 2021.
The only way to begin to understand law in our nation is to look for how terms are defined within them. Terms are words that are not defined by their common English definitions and in many cases can have many definitions to the point of being meaningless. We are not taught this in school and it is used against us by a corrupt legal system which is controlled from the top down internationally and called the BAR.
Sorry for my rant. I will pray for this family.

I also followed the case of Nancy Schaffer, who was a former Georgia State Senator…or rep..not absolutely certain of that. She’d had poor women appeal to her for help over sex trafficking within child services…kept getting stonewalled, was voted out of office & decided to go to print naming names. Her publisher ratted her out (my opinion), no doubt very well-paid, & the very day he was to pick up the manuscript he arrived to find the place crawling with police: murder-suicide.

I closely watched & prayed through the earlier case in which a young, formerly lesbian woman was saved, & left her partner. The partner put in a ‘claim’ on the birth child of that young lady, & judges ordered ‘visitation’….during which grooming abuse took place. Typically at bath time. ‘Family’ services & judges ignored that, & suicidal desires in a five-year-old which is extremely rare.

The mother spirited her child away to an undisclosed South or Central American country (or maybe they did disclose after all was said & done, can’t remember) when all hope of justice in our system eluded her. Her pastor (Mennonite) did jail time for refusing to discuss it with State authorities, & the businessman who drove her to the airport (who knew nothing of any of it) also was jailed. Somebody clearly was ‘sending a message’.

When the girl safely turned 18, she returned to the U.S., but her mother was still a ‘criminal’. Guilty of kidnapping her own endangered daughter for her safety & protection.

The parents need to stand firm. I don’t trust the legal system much these days, seems as it all connects, that it’s all money to them….so long as they get their ‘cut’, just like so many ‘medical professionals’: no other value left once truth is fallen in the streets. Even if you could find an honest lawyer, what of all the corrupt judges? All making money, & with great retirement & benefits packages, too, you can bet.

One day, that young lady may realize who had her best interests at heart. Jason Cooley (off on eschatology due to reading too much Puritan theology…take that warning for what it’s worth) recently showed an interview with a couple ‘transgendered’ people now in their twenties who realized they were used, & nobody wants to hear the stories of those who have to live the rest of their lives with the consequences of trusting the wrong people, using government & insurance monies, to permanently mutilate & alter their bodies. Pray. Record every interaction from the time going out to preach til in the vehicle to return, and on approach and at least some miles leaving is advisable.

Be sure to teach your children those lists in Leviticus & Deuteronomy 18 which bring judgment, & what God thinks of such abomination, & why. They ALWAYS try to circumvent the parents & elders to make their appeal to the inexperienced young. Girls & women shouldn’t be out there at all at such events: we can’t publicly preach biblically, at any rate….& it’s a pity men aren’t big enough to support& protect their wives & daughters as keepers at home: including taking on biblical instruction & all those things folks wrongly shifted off to ‘the professionals’ (you spell that n.i.c.o.l.a.i.t.a.n.s). Let’s pray we are out of here soon and the children will be gong with us. They will not be harmed anymore when they are with Jesus (and neither will we). These kids will be very mentally unstable later in life AFTER they’ve done harm to their bodies and can’t reverse it. It HAS to be the last days.
