Yesterday Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed what are known as “red flag” laws, that basically mean that it grants state authorities greater power to remove guns from residents they deem to be a threat to themselves and others, and levies other restrictions on their purchases.

Whitmer said in a statement on Twitter:

Today, Michigan joins the ranks of other states that have enacted Extreme Risk Protection Orders. The time for only thoughts and prayers is over. We know that we cannot keep living like this. Action is needed to keep us safe.

We’ve heard too many times how those who knew a mass shooter expressed concern in advance. We have seen situations where local police flagged someone but had no further course of action. With extreme risk protection orders, we have a mechanism to step in and save lives.

I’d like to thank the legislature, our partners at the local level, law enforcement, and all the incredible gun violence prevention advocates whose work made this possible.

The Daily Caller reported: ‘The first bill, Senate Bill (S.B.) 83, would permit family members, police, mental health professionals, roommates and former dating partners to petition a judge to remove firearms through an “extreme risk protection order” from those they believe pose an imminent threat to themselves or others. The court would then determine if evidence supports that the individual poses significant risk of self-injury or injury “to others by possessing a firearm” and act accordingly.’

‘The second, House Bill (H.B.) 4146, will enhance the measure of S.B. 83 by preventing an individual subject to an extreme protection order from obtaining a license to carry a concealed handgun,’ the outlet added.

But some police officers told the Associated Press they do not intend on enforcing this law.

‘Some local sheriffs in Michigan have told The Associated Press that they won’t enforce the law if they don’t believe it’s constitutional. Over half of the state’s counties have passed resolutions declaring themselves Second Amendment sanctuaries, opposing laws they believe infringe on gun rights,’ the AP wrote.

Nearly half of the country has red flag laws in place, with Minnesota enforcing them last week.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

Proverbs 29:2

Witchy Whitmer is at it again! This is in contrast to its southern neighbor Indiana, which has some of the loosest laws and those closest to the original Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Red flag laws are a mockery of the 2nd Amendment, and grants the government more authority and control.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
