David’s Bridal announces it laid off more than 9,000 workers, then filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy two days later. It has been one of the largest retailers of wedding dresses in the U.S.

The following report is by Evie Magazine:

It was estimated in 2022 that 61 million Americans are married. Fewer than half of adults have gotten hitchedand there’s an ever-growing number of never-married individuals aged 25 and older. Unfortunately, marriage has been on the decline for the last several decades. In the 1960s, about 85% of American adults with a high school degree were married, as were about 80% of American adults with a bachelor’s degree or higher. Over the last few decades, marriage has changed from being a normal, expected part of adulthood to being an optional part of life that is even discouraged by our mainstream culture. David’s Bridal, a popular chain of wedding gown stores across the country, might be feeling the consequences of a culture that doesn’t value marriage much anymore. The company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and just laid off more than 9,000 employees.

David’s Bridal Files For Bankruptcy And Lays Off More Than 9,000 Workers

David’s Bridal, LLC announced on April 17 that the company “filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code (‘Chapter 11’) in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey (the ‘Court’),” according to a press release. The stores will remain open, and the company intends to continue operating as usual to fulfill customer orders, but the brand is “exploring a sale of all or some of its assets pursuant to section 363 of the Bankruptcy Code.”

The Chief Executive Officer, James Marcum, released a statement:

Over the last several years, we have taken meaningful strides in our transformation to fulfill the needs of the brides of today and tomorrow. We have successfully modernized our marketing and customer interaction processes and driven our retail service levels to best in class.

Nonetheless, our business continues to be challenged by the post-Covid environment and uncertain economic conditions, leading us to take this step to identify a buyer who can continue to operate our business going forward.

We are determined to stay focused on our future because we believe we have an important role in ensuring that every bride, no matter her budget, can have her perfect dress.

David’s Bridal is based in suburban Philadelphia and recently laid off 9,236 workers. It’s impossible to know for sure whether the decline of marriage is the reason that David’s Bridal is suffering, but one can only assume that the two are somehow linked. There are other factors to consider, such as the fact that millennial and Gen Z brides tend to prefer reusable wedding dresses or even non-conventional wedding dresses that aren’t usually found at stores like David’s Bridal. The younger generations are also known to spend much less money on weddings. Between 2013 and 2018, bridal store revenue actually declined. This is partly due to fewer people getting married, but also to the fact that couples are finding nifty, affordable ways of getting married that are considered non-traditional.

The decline of marriage may not seem like a big deal, but when you look at the data, it’s clear that marriage has a positive effect not only on society but on individuals. Children of married couples are healthier, perform better in school, earn more money at work, and are much less likely to live in poverty, commit a crime, get pregnant as a teenager, etc. Put simply, married couples are more likely to produce children that will grow up to be contributing members of society. Married individuals are also more likely to be healthier, happier, and live longer than their unmarried or cohabitating counterparts.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

[1] Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; [2] Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; [3] Forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving of them which believe and know the truth.

1 Timothy 4:1-3

The bankruptcy of David’s Bridal is not surprising and was only a formality for three main reasons:

Firstly, you have economic conditions worsening by the day. Americans simply cannot afford much of anything anymore, having no savings and living paycheck-to-paycheck, as real wages cannot keep up with inflation as employers are not willing to raise wages to keep up with inflation, and on and on; therefore, dresses and accessories are the least of concern;

Secondly, this is all compounded upon by the likes of Amazon and other mega businesses wiping out medium and small businesses in the process, so who needs them when Amazon and others maintain a much larger stranglehold;

And lastly, marriage itself is on the outs. Marriage is now becoming a thing of the past of a bygone era of sorts, and divorces remain insanely elevated. Millennials and Gen-Z have no real interest in it, and instead have fully embraced whoremongering and “open relationships;” still living together but not actually married, neither in the sight of God, man, or even the state. And because feminism has ruined Western women, more and more Western men are now empowering themselves and identifying with MGTOW and “red pill” tribalism. It’s a mess, but that is what the scriptures prophesized would happen approximately 2,000 years ago; and is the result of kicking the truth of God’s word of out every man, woman, child’s hearts and life.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
