AGI is widely used to describe a kind AI which has integrated, general intellectual abilities that can be substantially likened to humans.

The following report is by the Trends Journal:

Has the newest version of ChatGPT achieved a human level of general intelligence?

Microsoft is now making that claim for ChatGPT4.

According to a paper released last Wednesday by company researchers:

We demonstrate that, beyond its mastery of language, GPT-4 can solve novel and difficult tasks that span mathematics, coding, vision, medicine, law, psychology and more, without needing any special prompting. Moreover, in all of these tasks, GPT-4’s performance is strikingly close to human-level performance, and often vastly surpasses prior models such as ChatGPT.

Given the breadth and depth of GPT-4’s capabilities, we believe that it could reasonably be viewed as an early (yet still incomplete) version of an artificial general intelligence (AGI) system.

AGI is widely used to describe a kind AI which has integrated, general intellectual abilities that can be substantially likened to humans.

The Microsoft declaration might not be a full claim that its AI is “conscious” or sentient.

But it’s close.

Less than a year ago, a Google employee made headlines for claiming that that company had achieved creation of a sentient (conscious) AI.

Google denied the claim.

Meanwhile, OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, and which is now partnered with Microsoft, has taken pains not to portray its AI system as any kind of general intelligence, or early form of sentient synthetic consciousness.

Microsoft’s researchers did qualify their claims, according to Vice.com, noting:

Our claim that GPT-4 represents progress towards AGI does not mean that it is perfect at what it does, or that it comes close to being able to do anything that a human can do (which is one of the usual definition [sic] of AGI; see the conclusion section for more on this), or that it has inner motivation and goals (another key aspect in some definitions of AGI).

(“Microsoft Now Claims GPT-4 Shows ‘Sparks’ of General Intelligence,” 24 Mar 2023)

But the overall takeaway of the paper was unmistakable: progress on AGI is advancing more rapidly, it seems, than AI experts believed possible not long ago.

Despite the paper, Microsoft responded to a comment request from Vice by saying it was not focused on trying to create an AGI:

Microsoft is not focused on trying to achieve AGI. Our development of AI is centered on amplifying, augmenting, and assisting human productivity and capability. We are creating platforms and tools that, rather than acting as a substitute for human effort, can help humans with cognitive work.

Microsoft is integrating ChatGPT features into its Office 365 SaaS (Software-as-a-Service) platform.

One must remember this is the AI that they are letting the masses see and learn about: God only knows what they’ve had for a very long time.

Notwithstanding it is evident that everything is going according to schedule it seems, or perhaps not enough. At any rate, we know that the AI takeover is here already and the masses will gladly embrace it, as this will be a huge component of the smart cities.

[31] Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. [32] For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. [33] But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Proverbs 1:31-33

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
