Resident Adam Simmons said that once he got the hazmat warnings he took off. “There were lines of cars. It took me probably half an hour just to get past one street,” he said.

After the ongoing fallout of the East Palestine, Ohio, train derailment and chemical catastrophe that, and two more train derailments across the U.S. since then – now another city in country has been placed on high alert after truck carrying nitric acid crashed and spilled all over the roadway.

Nitric acid is very toxic and caustic, according to Medline Plus. Simply inhaling the poisonous gas can cause choking, shortness of breath, coughing up blood, dizziness, accelerated heart palpitations, and more. Ingesting it is even worse. Touching it can also cause major skin irritations and obstruction of vision.

ABC 15 Arizona provided more details on the incident:

A crash in south Tucson promoted evacuations and shelter-in-place orders for hours after a nitric acid spill Tuesday evening, according to the Pima Country Department of Environmental Quality.

Authorities say a truck tractor pulling a box trailer flipped onto its side in the median. According to Arizona Department of Public Safety officials, the driver died from their injuries.

The affected area is near Kolb Road along Interstate 10.

A shelter-in-place order was lifted around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday, but it was reinstated early Wednesday morning. The order was once again rescinded Wednesday around 5:40 p.m.

Residents in the area were advised to turn off heaters, air conditioning units, and other equipment that may bring outside air in.

That included individuals:

  • East of the crash to Houghton Road
  • West of the crash to Kolb Road
  • North of the crash to Valencia Road
  • South of the crash to Voyager Road

UA Tech Park was among the area evacuated, and sources say Vail Unified School District was canceling all after-school programs Tuesday, according to KGUN in Tucson.

Tucson Fire, Pima County Office of Emergency Management, Arizona DPS, and the Department of Public Safety’s Hazardous Materials Response Unit are working on the response.

Authorities say the I-10 will be impacted by an extensive closure. DPS officials say drivers should plan for this closure to affect Wednesday morning’s commute.

I-10 westbound has reopened at Houghton Road and I-10 eastbound has reopened at Kolb Road. The only remaining closure for this incident is I-10 eastbound at Craycroft Road.

Since then ABC 15 provided a small update on the incident. Resident Adam Simmons said that once he got the hazmat warnings he took off. “There were lines of cars. It took me probably half an hour just to get past one street,” he said.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

Accidents happen, I get that and all; but after two years of food and fertilizer plants burning down, chickens and poultry being being slaughtered en masse, trains crashing with fertilizers and toxic materials on them, and now yet another truck will toxic chemicals crashes: it’s all really suspicious to say the least.

But I guess that’s “misinformation” for daring to have freedom of conscience and opinions.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • A train also just derailed outside Detroit, too. How many toxic train “accidents” have to happen before they stop being considered “accidental”?

    • They’ll stop being considered “accidental” once people see a pattern. There’s so many of them happening frequently and it’s toxic materials, therefore, unless they’re hiring blind train operators, it’s all planned out.
