Chicago, Illinois, Mayor Lori Lightfoot has what she believes to be a foolproof action to reduce crime: have residents not carry cash with them.
Lightfoot made these suggestions during a recent 90-minute mayoral election debate. Lightfoot is trying to maintain her position while 8 other candidates are vying for her job.
Right off the bat the first question asked the candidates about what should be done to make Chicago safer, by reducing crime, shootings, theft, abuse, and more. Crime has risen exponentially year-over-year in Chicago, though 2022 did see a small reduction in all overall reported criminal activity, but is still very much higher compared to 2020 levels and prior:
Lightfoot has consistently been under fire for her policies from the media for her policies that many have attributed to such a rise in violence, crime, and deaths. The candidates during the debate routinely cited this as a major reason for change.
When it is was Lightfoot’s turn to answer this overarching question, one of the suggestions she offered is to tell Chicagoans to simply carry less cash with them so it does not incentive would-be criminals to attack them.
We’ve been in Little Village working with those vendors, hand-in-glove, to make sure they are doing things they can do to protect themselves, like not using cash, like making sure that the cash that they do take in is secure.
[… We are] making sure we are doing things that are in concert with them, to help them make sure that their money is secure, not use money if at all possible, using other forms of transactions to take care of themselves, […] Lightfoot said
In June of 2022 The WinePress reported that Lightfoot passed a new law that prevents police officers from chasing after criminals on foot in most situations, which essentially grants would-be criminals immunity from ever really being questioned or persued by the cops.
It’s important that we make sure that violent dangerous people are dealt with, and sometimes that means you gotta pursue them, but I also want the officers to come home at night.

Furthermore, a few weeks later it was revealed new artificial intelligence surveillance technology was being installed throughout the city that claims to predict and forecast potential crime a whole week before it happens.

‘Don’t blame me, it’s your fault for carrying cash in your wallets and purses!’ Yup, that’s the solution, in her mind anyways. Take guns away, prevent police from actually being an officer, and then have the nerve to tell people to not carry cash with them because the crime rate is absurd, and people are on edge of being mugged and murdered.
Of course, with all the AI surveillance in place, Lightfoot’s solution is opening the doorway for social credit scores and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) to come rushing in as the “solution.”

Been carrying cash with me for many years, never once was I robbed on the street (I did experience a home invasion with a gun pointed to my face when I was a lost teenager, thanks to the Lord I was spared). If you dress like a heatbag, being too flashy, stroll around town during late hours at night or frequent seedy areas then yeah you will most likely get mugged.
