“With cloning, we can create a genetic carbon copy with all of the donor’s qualities.”

Yesterday China debuted the nation’s first-ever horse that was cloned in a lab in Beijing to be used for equestrian-based sports.

The horse’s name is “Zhuang Zhuang” and was bred from a surrogate mother in the Beijing laboratory Sinogene, bred from a horse imported from Germany. Zhuang Zhuang is from the “warmblood” group of breeds which generally means that they tend to be light and have a lively personality.

Horse competitions have been steadily growing in China and in order to meet demand horses, more horses are set to be cloned to cut costs on a buying the real thing.

Mi Jidong, CEO of Sinogene, told AFP in a statement:

I spoke with (Chinese) riders who participate in the Olympics. All of them have more than one horse, usually two or three. Each horse costs from a few million to 10 million yuan ($1.5 million).

Cloning can help reduce the price of breeding and raising horses.

He explained

Moreover, in a statement to Sputnik Sinogene deputy CEO Zhao Jianping said,

China is still lagging behind when it comes to breeding high-quality horses… Purebreds used in equestrian sports are seen as leisure horses. Their breeding base is very weak so they are mostly imported from other countries.

With cloning, we can create a genetic carbon copy with all of the donor’s qualities.

Equestrian cloning is not a new thing. The first time a horse was cloned was in back in 2003 in Italy.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

Maybe it’s just me but something about that horse does not look quite right. I mean, if you look in its’ eyes it looks like ‘nobody is home.’

At any rate, I have reported before that cloning is only going to accelerate in the years to come, and it will be done much more efficiently, and truly be cloned from nothing in a lab somewhere.

It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

Proverbs 10:23

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • Since this horse is a clone, it will probably have a short life span similar to “Dolly the Sheep” Do the research. Since our creator is not fully into crispr cas9 tech or cloning humans are going to destroy species that need to be left alone.
