The state of Alabama moved last week to prohibit state and government employees from using or accessing the Chinese-owned app TikTok.
Governor Kay Ivey signed an executive order last week to ban TikTok from all government devices and networks.
[This is] to protect the state and Alabamians’ sensitive data from Chinese infiltration activities.
Protecting the state of Alabama and our citizens’ right to privacy is a must, and I surely don’t take a security threat from China lightly. After we discussed this with our [Office of Information Technology] secretary, I came to the no brainer decision to ban the use of the TikTok app on our state devices and network.
Look, I’m no TikTok user, but the evidence speaks for itself, and I want to make sure I’m doing everything we can as a state to stand against this growing security risk.
Ivey, 78, said in a memo
South Dakota state Governor Kristi Noem did a similar ban last month listing identical reasons for banning the app. Other states like Maryland, South Carolina, and Nebraska, and Utah have also done the same.
Yesterday it was reported that Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, will also be banning access TikTok on campus. The college said that students and staff were informed last week that TikTok would be removed from all school devices and servers, and will be inaccessible via the school’s WiFi, a spokesperson told Insider.
Efforts are underway to remove TikTok from all state-owned devices provided by Auburn. Note also that the new policy recommends removing TikTok from personal devices to protect a person’s privacy there as well.
The governor’s order addresses the growing risk of intrusive social media applications harvesting data totally unrelated to business use of the platform.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY
For the transgression of a land many are the princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.
Proverbs 28:2
Just as I said in my report about Noem’s ban on TikTok, this is more conservative hypocrisy as usual. They, just like Trump, will only make a big deal out of TikTok because it is owned by the Chinese, but they do not warn of all the other major Chinese-owned apps and tech services; namely, Reddit, Spotify, Discord, Riot Games, Epic Games, Ubisoft, Roblox, Weibo, Sony, Warner Brothers, and many more.
Oh, and by the way, everything is made in China or somewhere else other than our own country! Guess they forgot to tell you that!
Believe me when I say I am not defending TikTok in the slightest: I don’t have an account and I quite frankly I hope I never do. But these moves by the government are just as equally as bad or perhaps worse when a social media company censors someone.
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

I am making 90 US dollars an hour working from home. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning 16,000 US dollars a month by working on a laptop, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed for me to attempt it simply.
