Various schemes have been suggested to store waste carbon that’s taken out of the fuel stream or the atmosphere, but few have been tried. Most of the attention has gone to Climeworks, a Swiss company that operates giant, ground-standing filters that suck air through and draw off the carbon.

The following report is by The Trends Journal:

Now Denmark is attempting a more grandiose approach that takes carbon out of the ground, uses the practical parts, and puts the waste back where it came from.

It’s called Project Greensands: engineers will liquefy carbon gas to be captured from smokestacks, petroleum production, and other sources, load it aboard tankers, and sail it 120 miles out to an abandoned oil production platform in the North Sea’s old Siri oilfield.

From there, the carbon will be pumped 1.1 miles down into the Earth to refill the sandstone reservoir that oil and gas was taken out of over the past 40 years.

The Danish government has funded the trial with €26 million, the largest grant it has ever bestowed.

In part, the funds will be used to test methods of capturing the carbon as well as to detail the project’s costs, from points where carbon is captured to sending it downhole.

By 2025, Denmark expects to be locking up 1.5 million tons of carbon each year in the depleted reservoir, growing that number to 8 million by 2030, which is about 13 percent of the country’s annual emissions today.

The Siri field is big enough to store all the carbon Denmark has ever emitted into the atmosphere in its history, project developers claim.

Optimists predict that the field would be able to store 500 years’ worth of the country’s carbon off-gas at its current rate of emission.

TRENDPOST: Old oil and gas fields are almost everywhere and promise to be excellent places to store waste gas or liquids: the rocks are porous, the plumbing, valves, and other works are in place to keep the waste from leaking back to the surface, and refilling an empty reservoir can keep the ground above it from sinking.

A key drawback to Denmark’s technology: it isn’t self-funding.

The cost would be huge and ongoing, the kind of thing nonprofit groups can’t afford and governments won’t pay for until a majority of the public demands it.

Still, Denmark’s project is worth doing in order to set baselines for the method’s costs, drawbacks, and overall effectiveness.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

I have no idea how this will work or if it’ll even be effective in any meaningful way, assuming it does not make the situation worse. To me, it sounds like a lemon that will probably further damage the environment more than it already was.

[21] My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: [22] For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

Proverbs 24:21-22

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • Brother jacob can you ask brother Bryan if he ever received the money from amazon I bought 10 of his books. Just want to make sure. Thanks

  • Insanity.

Meanwhile they continue geoengineering spraying truly toxic stuff into the atmosphere, while suddenly carbon, the stuff of living or once living creatures….like us….is toxic.

Sounds like a scheme to make money off of otherwise useless, played out oil wells to me. Replay of finding a use for flouride industry byproducts & such things….putting them into our water, spraying them into the air…never admitting what they’re really doing. Creating drought, or storms to control ‘resisters’, create wars. Debilitating the people, poisoning & destroying their food sources, the ground, their fruitfulness & ‘extracting value’ from natural processes: finding ways to make us sick & pay, even to pay for breathing & any other natural process they can ‘extract value’ from: even artificial womb ‘pod’ babies that will surely be merely ‘rented’ with shared ‘joint ownership’ with corporate-State patented genetic material tucked in as well as parentally ‘donated’, & meaning they own it & you pay for it.

Oops, your ‘parents’ only paid for 40 years of life……for a couple hundred grand, & re-cycling your ‘parents’, maybe we can grant you another ten years.

  • Insanity. Calling the stuff of every living or formerly living creature ‘toxic’, while continuing their geoengineering spraying truly toxic stuff into the air poisoning people, animals & the soil… Their dangerous bioengineering.

Sounds like a way to capitalize & ‘extract value’ from a natural process & played out oil wells at the same time to me. Like they found use for flouride industry by-products & the stuff they’re spraying into the atmosphere, too, no doubt. Charging us for breathing & existing.
