Australia Launches New MyGov App That Combines Digital Banking With Managing Private And Public Services, And Vaccine Passports

The app will require different biometric features such as facial recognition, fingerprint scans, QR codes, and a 6-digit PIN.

Calling the move a “quantum leap forward” for government services in Australia, Minister Bill Shorten explained that this app is designed to become a single “digital location” to manage identity and provide mobile access to both government and private sector services. “At long last,” he said.

Today’s announcement means no more annoying myGov inbox announcements that send you somewhere else to go somewhere else.

This shouldn’t be revolutionary news, but for government services in this country we have just taken a quantum leap forward. We’re just going to save people time.

As Biometric Update points out, the app will also allow users to connect with the government’s Centrelink – a social security system to receive and manage payments.

The MyGov website also adds that International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate[s] can be loaded into the app as well, along with other health cards and IDs.

It’s simpler to sign in with the myGov app—people can use a 6 digit PIN or, if they prefer, the phones’ security feature, such as fingerprint or face recognition. Checking your myGov Inbox is also quick and easy with the app.

The app includes a digital wallet to store your government-issued cards and documents. Digital verification through a QR code confirms the document displayed is both genuine and valid, and means providers do not need to store your personal information. This is a significant step forwards in tackling fraud and theft of these important documents.

You can currently add Centrelink concession cards and your International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate to the myGov wallet. Soon, you’ll be able to add additional items, such as your Medicare card.

Shorten also noted in his press release that the app will eventually receive future updates to include more features.

Biometric Update adds, ‘The move by prime minister Anthony Albanese’s government was driven in part by security concerns, after some agencies were targeted for ransomware attacks and attempts at extortion. In October 2022, a data breach from Optus exposed valid, current IDs of 1.2 million people.’

The wallet helps us strengthen the security of government digital cards and certificates. The items you can store in the wallet have protections against fraud and theft.

This move is greasing the wheels and very subtly priming the Australians to accept a social credit score and a Chinese-style all-in-one surveillance state app like WeChat – which is what Elon Musk has openly called for.

On top of this, The WinePress has already reported that megabanks in the country are seeking to implement a new national payment and ID system by next year. This MyGov certainly plays into that I would think.

Furthermore, The WP has also reported on how one of the large banks are now tracking carbon footprints, and incentivizing customers to make more “green-based” purchases:

At every turn, all roads are leading to a singular government app and national ID, capped off by the introduction of central bank digital currencies and social credit scores.

Ultimately, this is again moving the masses closer towards the mark of the beast system:
