It is essentially created from lemons and limes, and other minerals.

Oxford scientists have successfully turned CO2 into jet fuel. Many are now wondering if this can transform aviation, with the possibility of conventionally-powered aircraft with net zero emissions.

The scientists simply heated a concoction of citric acid, hydrogen, and an iron-manganese-potassium catalyst to turn CO2 into a liquid fuel capable of powering jet aircraft.

This new fuel is inexpensive and is not hard to create as many commonplace items are needed. The process is so simple, it is easier to do this than converting hydrogen and water into fuel. For example, citric acid, (C₆H₈O₇), is commonly found in lemons and limes.

It is noted that there are challenges to bringing this to aircraft. The amount that was produced was only just a few grams – obviously a lot more would be needed to sustain an entire flight.

The article also points out, “You’d need much more widespread use of carbon capture. And if you want effectively zero emissions, the capture and conversion systems would have to run on clean energy.”

This has not deterred researchers from reaching out to industrial partners. Airliners would be able to keep their existing planes, but would have to make a fuel conversion.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Revelation 11:18

This is yet another good-for-the-environment product/invention that is actually cost-effective. And yet will it be adopted: I highly doubt it. It would put the fueling companies in even deeper of a pickle than they already are currently in because of the lockdowns and heavy restrictions. The things that are actually harmful to the environment will still be predominantly used, which confirms the prophecy in the book of Revelation. So yet another useful innovation will be ignored on a mass scale. Still rather intriguing nonetheless.
