German politicians are once again telling their residents to ‘suck it up’ and deal with the continuing rise of energy prices and shortages, and to knuckle-down and deal with the repercussions of the sanctions levied against Russia.
Objectively speaking, Germany, out of all of the European Union, seems to be the most affected by these restrictions placed against Russia.
The WinePress has reported on just a handful of these developments: from prices of food reportedly rocketing to 50% higher earlier this year; to the nation’s largest landlords voluntarily reducing their temperatures to conserve costs, to thousands of retailers forecast to close in the near future due to costs being simply too much to bare; to even the Prime Minister recommending citizens to clean themselves with a washcloth instead of taking a shower, to which some families were already doing that to conserve costs.
And yet the German Foreign Minister publicly said not long ago that she will continue to devote her resources and priorities towards the Ukraine first, at the cost of her own people potentially suffering:
And now some of most recent rhetoric has come way of the former Germany Prime Minister of the Parliament, Wolfgang Schäuble, who pushed against restless Germans who are challenging the government’s decisions.
In an interview with Germany outlet Bild, Schäuble says that the German people need to stop their complaining, but rather layer-up and burn tons of candles.
The former Minister was asked questions about the Russia-Ukraine war, about the prospect of nuclear war, which Schäuble said that they cannot be intimidated by the threats, but says that would be a crossing a “red line” if Putin utilizes some nuclear tech, but never really gave a straightforward as to what the response would be.
But he did assert that that war is “our business” as well.
So far, Putin seems to be counting on us all to back down under his threat! We’re not allowed to. We must understand that this war is also our business!
But this persistent nature to want to help Ukraine has obviously taken a toll on civilians, and so the host asked if the nation should come to their aid. Schäuble essentially said ‘no.’
You have to make sure that you only help those who really need it. You have to tell the others: If you have to, you can’t go on a vacation trip. The danger I see is that we believe that the state is something that just has to provide its citizens with more and more. A kind of supermarket where the citizens are bargain hunters. No!
If we suggest to people that everything is unlimited, we are overexploiting. Then people get the impression that the state can do everything. This is not sustainable!
The host then followed-up by asking: “Do you think we Germans are a spoiled society?” Schäuble responded with this:
Sure, we all are. I also. But we must now resist the danger that things will continue like this forever. The Germans will have to try harder again!
It worries me that so many Germans would rather work less: for example part-time and never at the weekend. This will not work. Because there is a shortage of workers everywhere! My experience is: Always having fun – that’s not fulfilling life.
At the end of the day, people have to have the feeling that it’s fair. Helping those who really need it. That’s why the sentence was very misleading, that a baker can simply shut down his business. That was a communication error on the part of Mr. Habeck.
Then you just put on a sweater. Or maybe a second sweater. You don’t have to whine about it, you have to recognize that a lot of things can’t be taken for granted.
Heat can drop out sometimes. That’s why you should always have a few candles, matches and a flashlight at home.
[…] Laughing is free and relaxed. We have no reason to give up.
AUTHOR COMMENTARY
The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.
Proverbs 29:7
Obviously there is some truth in what he says, of course, about taking things for granted and being entitled; but the arrogance and total disregard for his people is nonetheless disgusting. This is called being tone deaf, and Proverbs 29:7 is another way of saying, “Let them eat cake.” But are we surprised by this?
Moreover, the blatant hypocrisy here is even worse. Germany, like all the rest, shutdown their economies and printed money hand-over-fist in the form of measly peasant checks and stimulus. Apparently that is sustainable, but letting the country rapidly descend into penury and anarchy in the name of fighting Putin is A-OK.
Nevertheless, like it or loathe it, I told readers in late-Spring and Summer to start making winter preparations then before it was too late, and the hoards panicked and ran to the exits and pick the stores clean.
As you know, if you regularly follow The WP, you understand that this is the Lord’s judgment on the nations for their wickedness and hatred of his word.
[28] The LORD shall smite thee with madness, and blindness, and astonishment of heart: [29] And thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled evermore, and no man shall save thee. [33] The fruit of thy land, and all thy labours, shall a nation which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed alway: [34] So that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.Deuteronomy 28:28-29, 33-34
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

I suspect that this Wolfgang Schäuble guy isn’t going to be putting on a second sweater and making due with candles. He’ll be hanging out with the elite, having ritzy state dinners while the people suffer, much like most all leaders and former leaders these days.
I’m not too sure I buy all of the stories, But I’ve heard of generals and sometimes even national leaders getting down and standing side by side with their troop/citizens in times of distress, and not just empty speeches either. I personally would love to see a return of that, but something tells me that I’ll be with the Lord before I see that.
Classic Craft. Dumb down, demoralize, create an unnatural & unsustainable dependence, & ill advised trust ….then tire of the harlot & blame her. We’re all just pawns…things to be used & manipulated…to these people with their crass, cold & cruel chess games. Like the master they serve, and just as deluded that they’ll ‘win’ in the end. Only those with the Spirit & seeing through the lens & sustaining living words of scripture see it for what it is, & have the imperishable hope & freedom indeed, the grace of God, to see them through it come what may. The just shall live by faith, and we shall see the judgment of the ungodly & the spirit they serve before it’s all over.
