U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has made a highly controversial and attention grabbing move to visit with delegates in Taiwan, defying military threats from China.

Prior to her landing, Taipei 101, the tallest building in the capital city of Taipei, and all of Taiwan, ran a message displaying the nation’s support for her visit.
The WinePress reported in April that Pelosi was planning to visit Taiwan then, but when China piped up right back, she magically tested positive for Covid and canceled the visit:
Meanwhile, the Chinese have been very outspoken and direct about Pelosi’s visit, threatening to respond militarily. Chinese troops have already begun to mobilize and perform drills in Fujian, the nearest Chinese occupied providence to Taiwan:
China has since announced that they will initiating more drills and military exercises around Taiwan, which would be the closest such operations in a longtime, that, if true, are creeping up on the shores of Taiwan.

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Uzbek capital Tashkent, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi slammed Washington for “betraying its own promise on Taiwan” and “despicable” conduct over Pelosi’s visit.

They stand as enemies of 1.4 billion Chinese people. The US bullying is known to the world and the world will see more clearly that the US is the largest destroyer of peace.

Hua Chunying, a spokeswoman for the Chinese foreign ministry, said Beijing has been “closely watching” Pelosi’s trip to Asia, and said it was nothing less than an official act.
That the US House speaker, as the No 3 person in the US government, visits Taiwan on a US military plane, is no unofficial act.
She said during Tuesday’s regular press briefing in the Chinese capital.
The US should be fully responsible for provoking Beijing and the escalation of tensions, she added.
The collusion between Taiwan and the US comes first and China’s legitimate defence will follow later. Any countermeasure taken by the Chinese side is just and necessary, and it’s an inalienable right of a sovereign state.

As for Taiwan, they have already ramped up their defenses, preparing for the potential that China could attack.
The Taiwanese government posted a video depicting residents reacting to shelter-in-place drills in the middle of broad daylight, with air raid sirens blaring. Such drills have purportedly been conducted for sometime, in the event China launches an attack.
Along with Taiwan, the U.S. is reportedly ramping up their forces. The International Business Times explains more:
Taiwan has reportedly ramped up its combat preparedness to take on the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) after news broke out regarding House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s impending visit to the island. China has repeatedly warned the U.S. of severe countermeasures and that “the PLA will not sit idly by” if Pelosi visits Taiwan.
The island’s armed forces will enter a higher state of preparedness between Tuesday and Thursday against the threat by the PLA, reported Taiwanese media CNA.

Taiwan’s defense ministry has issued a statement, warning it would appropriately dispatch forces in reaction to “enemy threats.” The defense ministry said it had a full grasp of military activity near Taiwan, and had the “determination, ability and confidence” to ensure Taiwan’s national security. It added that it had made various unspecified plans for an emergency.
The heightened alert does not amount to the country being put on a war footing, reports added. However, the government has not explained why the number of Mirage 2000 fighters stationed at the Taitung Air Force Zhihang Base was increased from four to 12.
Taiwan’s police have reportedly been getting ready to secure the capital for the visit. The Taipei City Police Department has plans in place for Pelosi’s safety, including securing the hotel where she would stay, conducting traffic control at intersections, and deploying 350-400 officers to protect her.
Meanwhile, the U.S. has also increased its military presence in the region. According to reports, two U.S. capital ships and their escorts are operating near Taiwan. Besides the carrier USS Ronald Reagan, the big deck amphibious ship USS Tripoli with Marine F-35B Lighting II Joint Strike Fighters are currently in the vicinity of Taiwan ahead of Pelosi’s visit.
A Pentagon spokesman told USNI News on Monday that the ships were operating normally in the region. He also refused to detail force protection measures for Pelosi’s visit. However, the news outlet quoted a senior defense official who claimed the ships, escorts and their air wings were prepared to linger as a contingency option.
China is also conducting a series of drills, including a live-fire exercise that aims to “test overall combat capability under complex conditions.” The drills saw minuteman missile unit, anti-aircraft artillery unit, radar unit and other combat units participate in the exercise. PLA aircraft carriers Liaoning and the Shandong too are heading northward from the East China Sea, triggering speculations that they are moving towards Taiwan Strait.
At the same time, Russia has sided with China and has displayed their support for the red giant.
And in such a short amount of time, Germany has also stated that they will aid the U.S. and Taiwan in defense operations if things escalate, reported by ZeroHedge.
We do not agree with a situation where a big neighbor attacks a small one, while violating international law. And this also applies to China.
In case of aggression from China, Germany will help Taiwan.
