Tedros began his warning by stating several times over that he is “concerned” by the continuous rise in cases, hospitalization, and deaths around the world attributed to Covid. He further noted that the WHO’s emergency committee for Covid says that they are concerned about these spread of these subtypes of the Omicron variant. And even with all the additional testing and surveillance measures that have been greatly implemented, Tedros says that there is still not enough of either.
He also stated that vaccines and other treatments are “not being deployed effectively.” In other words, vaccine administration has been very low in recent times.
As transmissions and hospitalizations rise, governments must also deploy tried and tested measures like masking, improved ventilation, and test and treat[ment] protocols.
I urge governments to regularly review and adjust their Covid-19 response plans, based on the current immunology and potential for new variants to appear.
Vaccines have saved millions of lives and it’s important for governments to focus on boosting those most at risk communities – finding the unvaccinated, so as to be buildup the world of immunity toward the 70% vaccination target.

Regular readers know that since the beginning of this year The WP was one of the small few that said the Covid war was not going to go away, not yet anyways; and that forecast has proven to be on the ball. More recently in the past weeks, I have stated: “I suspect that by this fall the media will really crank up new case outbreaks and probably pump out new variants with new Greek letters.”
I advise that you assume and plan for the serious reality that the governments around the world are going to propagandize new variants, push harder to get vaccinated, and try to implement new lockdowns and restrictions by the fall, and especially heading into the winter.
