The Rake Beer Project, a Muskegon brewery, released a new beer on Thanksgiving day sarcastically poking fun at Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The beer was showcased on their Instagram page on Thanksgiving. It officially released on December 1st, and sold out in 10 minutes.
The name of the beer was called “Big Gretch 2: The Return.” This was a sequel to their first alcoholic beverage, a hard seltzer, simply called “The Gretch.” That seltzer was released during the first wave of Michigan lockdowns. When Whitmer ordered the state to lockdown again, the Muskegon company got to work designing a new beverage.
The nickname “Big Gretch” was coined by Detroit rapper Gmac Cash, in his viral hit released in March.
Author Commentary
As a Bible believer, I simply can not or will not advocate a Christian to drink beer. And things like wine are an issue of liberty (Rom 14:21; 1 Tim 5:23).
That being said, I thought this was funny. I live in northern Indiana, walking distance from the border of Michigan; so a lot of what happens in Michigan impacts me, too. Gretchen “Witch” Whitmer, is, well, a witch! That corrupt governor has imposed some of the worst of the worst of the covid restrictions; while she has free reign to do as she pleases. So when I saw that someone made a beer making fun of her, I could not help but giggle.
I will, however, point out the fact that this is what many are doing during the lockdowns: boozing up; and it will only increase in 2021 to drown out the sorrows and depression the people are under.
[9] All ye beasts of the field, come to devour, yea, all ye beasts in the forest. [10] His watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber. [11] Yea, they are greedy dogs which can never have enough, and they are shepherds that cannot understand: they all look to their own way, every one for his gain, from his quarter. [12] Come ye, say they, I will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink; and to morrow shall be as this day, and much more abundant.Isaiah 56:9-12
