“In other words, a baby born alive and well could be abandoned and left to starve or freeze to death, and nothing could be done to punish those who participated in that cruel death.”

The Maryland senate will soon review a proposal to allow mothers to abort their baby a whole 4 weeks after it has left the womb.

Senate Bill 669, otherwise known as the Pregnant Person’s Freedom Act of 2022, is sponsored by Senator William Smith, and initial hearings will begin on March 15th.

[T]he bill also proposes a revision of the fetal murder/manslaughter statute that would serve to handcuff the investigation of infant deaths unrelated to abortion.

Olivia Summers wrote for American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ)

This is due to the bill’s wording impeding investigations and criminal pursuits for women and medical professionals for a “failure to act” in association to a “perinatal death.”

In other words, a baby born alive and well could be abandoned and left to starve or freeze to death, and nothing could be done to punish those who participated in that cruel death.

Summers explained

The legislature is worded rather vaguely, so, Summers believes the law could be interpreted to “prevent investigations into the death of infants at least seven days AFTER their birth, and may extend to infants as old as four weeks!”

Moreover, the state of Maryland does not define “perinatal.” But a law passed in 2020 defines “perinatal care” as the “provision of care during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum and neonatal periods.”

MedicineNet, a subsidiary to WebMD, defines ‘perinatal’ as “the 20th to 28th week of gestation” and “1 to 4 weeks after birth.”

Summers additionally points out that Maryland already has safe haven laws in place that grant parents to leave a newborn baby with a responsible adult without fear of prosecution.

Under the Safe Haven law, a distressed parent who is unable or unwilling to care for their infant can safely give up custody of their baby, no questions asked. Newborns can be left at hospitals or law enforcement stations.

The Maryland Department of Human Services says

There is absolutely no reason for Maryland Senate Bill 669’s attempt to prevent someone who lets their baby die from being investigated. This bill just further exposes the complete lack of regard abortion advocates have for innocent human life.

If they truly want to protect life and women, then legislators could simply extend the length of the safe harbor provision already in place.

Summers concludes

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? yea, they may forget, yet will I not forget thee.

Isaiah 49:5

At the time of this publication, the state of Texas is basically succeeding in squashing abortion there. So now up East, Maryland now wants to allow the murder of an innocent baby a whole month after birth with no consequences! The Lord’s hand is already against this nation and its desolation will soon be getting very bad, so, true justice will be served.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
