The Internet Archive, the free internet library that allows people to archive digital records and timestamps for free access, along with the Archive’s popular tool the Wayback Machine, were recently rendered inoperable and taken down after a group of so-called “hacktivists” targeted the repository in a series of DDoS attacks. The attacks, along with a string of lawsuits against the free archive platform, puts the future of this popular tool in jeopardy.

The Wayback Machine stores over 890 billion pieces of saved webpages, almost 100 petabytes (1,000 terabytes, TB). The data the Internet Archive has is virtually irreplaceable. Google is perhaps the only other backup of cached data, but just recently Google announced they would no longer be using their own cached archives, and it directed users to the Internet Archive – which is now in limbo.

“Have you ever felt like the Internet Archive runs on sticks and is constantly on the verge of suffering a catastrophic security breach? It just happened. See 31 million of you on HIBP!,” stated the JavaScript alert shown on the archive.org site, referencing the data breach notification site Have I Been Pwned, as reported by Bleeping Computer.

As of today, October 17th, this is all that is left of the Internet Archive for the time being:

Since May of this year, Internet Archive has reportedly been facing heavy DDoS attacks, and on October 9th the site was rendered inoperable by hackers. The hacking group claiming responsibility calls themselves Blackmeta.

Blackmeta shared a video on social media claiming this was done as a message to, supposedly, create awareness about the current conflicts and deaths in the Middle East.

The hack attack also claimed 31 million unique user records. The hijacked database stores authentication information for registered users, including email addresses, screen aliases, password change timestamps, and Bcrypt-hashed passwords and other data.

On top of this, the Internet Archive has been facing a number of lawsuits from big corporations for hosting their material. Large publishing houses and major record labels have filed lawsuits for copyright infringement, and the courts sided in favor of the publishing companies, leading to record labels to capitalize on this precedent.

On Monday, The Verge reported the Internet Archive is back online in a read-only state.

The founder of Internet Archive, Brewster Kahle, said in a statement on X: “Wayback Machine resumed in a provisional, read-only manner. Sorry, no Save Page Now yet. Safe to resume but might need further maintenance, in which case it will be suspended again. Please be gentle.”

Mark Graham, Director of the Internet Archive, said in a post yesterday, “The archives are safe & the Wayback Machine is up in read-only mode. We hope to turn more web crawling on within a day to make sure our web collections remain whole. Next up: Save Page Now.”

In a response to a comment, Graham said: “The archives are safe. Expect http://archive.org to be back in a few days.”

In my opinion, I have never really believed that these so-called hacking groups are real and truly organic. I understand hackers and hacktivists do exist, and they can really topple some stuff out there, but attacking the Internet Archive makes no sense whatsoever…

Unless (!) it’s the government and secret intelligence doing this, and this hacking group in particular is just a front organization for that, or contracted by proxy at the most? I don’t know for certain, of course, but when combined with all the legal headaches the Internet Archive has been going through, it really makes me think this was a deliberate attack by governments and big business to scrub the internet of all past records.

The government, the media, encompassed by the broader military industrial complex, do not want to be held accountable and deal with dissention; and the Wayback Machine contains plenty of unsavory and damning information on there that we know that they don’t want people to uncover.

Could this be related to the NSA essentially taking over the internet earlier this year after the FISA Act was renewed? The timing is interesting…

In July, I covered what was called the “dead internet theory,” which basically refers to the concept that most of the internet already is just AI garbage, and the internet will eventually be nothing more than purely AI material and AI personas interacting with themselves and us. Even though the Internet Archive should be operational at some point soon, I think we know its time is very limited. Moreover, I have noted before that the tech giants and elite class are planning on creating a new internet; wiping the slate clean and starting over, but with FAR more restrictions and governance than what they are able to do now.

Jeremiah 36:22 Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month: and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him. [23] And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • ” . . . the tech giants and elite class are planning on creating a new internet; wiping the slate clean and starting over, but with FAR more restrictions and governance than what they are able to do now.” <—-likely to come with access restrictions to boot!

I'll be taking a 'pass'. Lived well without the internet before, and can do so again.

  • It’s the first step to complete control; erase history, ya know when one says: remember that time/thing that was going on? Answer: what thing, it never happened and there’s no record of it.
DO NOT CLICK ZEE BUTTON, your not authorized.

If they had their way they’d destroy all records, so they could take everything ya own, so sorry no record of it, it’s ours now. Complete take over

NOT GUNNA HAPPEN, CAUSE GOD”S IN CHARGE, so sorry charlie !!!
