Ford Motor Co. recently filed a patent that allows for “in-vehicle advertising,” that are curated by the car listening to conversations by the driver and passengers.

An example image from the patent

The patent, first reported by Motor1, explains how the system would use the driver’s ‘destination, route, speed, travel history location, traffic, and more to determine the type of ads to show you and how many to display on the vehicle’s various screens. Even the type of road you’re driving on, such as a city street or highway, could determine the number of ads you see, and Ford will be watching,’ Motor1 reported.

Ford would also assess cab members would interact with the advertisements, along with monitoring acoustic information such as tracking in-car conversations, to help it “understand the user’s tolerance for a particular advertisement’s count.” If there is silence in the vehicle, the dash might play an audio ad to kill the silence.

Motor Trend pointed out in its report that Ford appears to be acutely aware that advertising in the car will be frowned upon. The outlet wrote: ‘there’s a recognition that an occupant’s “natural inclination to seek minimal or no ads” should be balanced with “maximum opportunity for ad-based monetization.” The patent, basically, says that it will use a few different algorithms to bypass occupants’ preference for zero ads by playing ads at certain times, attempting to minimize disruption by understanding the context.’

A spokesperson for Ford addressed some of the concerns in a statement, saying it’s a “normal part of any strong business as the process protects new ideas and helps us build a robust portfolio of intellectual property.”

The ideas described within a patent application should not be viewed as an indication of our business or product plans. No matter what the patent application outlines, we will always put the customer first in the decision-making behind the development and marketing of new products and services.

The spokesperson added

A number of auto publications are not too fond of the idea and refer to it as a “privacy nightmare.”

Car pricing and review website Edmunds called issues a “bad idea alert,” adding: “if the idea of this being implemented makes you upsetti spaghetti, don’t worry, you aren’t alone. But unfortunately, due to our weak consumer privacy laws here in the U.S., Ford is largely free to implement this patent if it wishes. Hopefully it won’t.”

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

“And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: […],” 2 Peter 2:3 says in part. Paul prophesized that in the end times the second thing on the list of 18 sins that would be on full display would be “covetousness.”

2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. [2] For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, […]

The covetousness in the world today has gotten so grossly out of control. Not a second goes by where we are being prodded to buy and be indebted with useless trash that we don’t need. Slavery takes on different forms. American slavery is to turn everyone into a debt slave and a consumer that is never satisfied, beguiled into believing that they must never stop feasting over and never be satiated, thankful for what little they have; and in doing so it keeps the cycle going that makes believe they are rich and prosperous when they really aren’t.

Ecclesiastes 5:10 He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.

Proverbs 13:25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

Ford has been on a tear lately, filing patents for all these very draconian innovations. That’s not to say that other brands are better, but Ford is really pushing the vortex for stupidity, save only maybe for Tesla among others.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • Debts are worse than chains. America has become a consumers’ hellhole.

Shop Till You Drop was not just a game show, it’s a mantra of covetous greed!

Outside they look rich, but in reality they’re paupers.

I will not get a Ford vehicle at all. If they’re going to be implementing these innovations, all bets are off.

    Jacob,
Do you think you can make a report on the Haitians in Ohio eating cats?

    • Andrew, when I was in my early twenties, I worked at a bank. The customers that dressed to the nines, drove fancy cars were essentially broke. Perhaps 3% were authentically wealthy – if that. Conversely, the customers that dressed ratty, in need of new shoes, and drove a ‘beater’ were flush with cash!

Really, not much has changed. People with fancy job titles may live in large fancy homes, but they don’t own them. Not even close. They get them with interest only loans. That’s basically, rent. All because they want to appear successful to other people. Crazy!

Imagine working for 40+ years and owning nothing, all because you bought things you didn’t want just to impress someone you didn’t like. I say . . . they weren’t too bright to begin with.

      Owning ‘tastes’ better.

      • Ecclesiastes 7:9 Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools. [10] Say not thou, What is the cause that the former days were better than these? for thou dost not inquire wisely concerning this.
A lot of Millennials and Zoomers are asking that question right now, and even though they are justifiably angry and have the right to be upset, many of them don’t realize that this so-called “prosperity” and “American Dream” the Silents, Boomers and Xennials experienced was really just debt-based; built on the back of mortgages, leases, loans, layaways, credit, and IOUs – that they have now passed down to the rest of us. Just look at US total debt and it’s at $102 trillion! It’s all fake prosperity, and only a small few are making bank off of that debt.

        • Factor in, the majority of those who sign mortgage papers don’t even read them. Stupid.

People conveniently ‘forget’ that ALL debt instruments can be called in – at any time. If that happens, (and it might), those same people living the high life, could find themselves losing everything. Not smart. This option applies to virtually everything nowadays. Not having signed mortgage papers in decades myself, I don’t know if they’ve slipped that language in mortgages, but they may have. When someone else holds your ‘papers’ (so to speak), they also dictate the terms.

      • I feel ya, Born Again.
Those that look rich are actually struggling to make ends meet while those who look like they’re “ratty” (for lack of better words) are the ones who are doing very good.

Make yourself poor and have great riches!

Don’t judge a book by its cover.

  • I think Ford just lost some potential buyers with this stupid idea. It enslaves people even more and invades their privacy. Who in the world would want that in their car? They will probably all follow suit and every car manufacturer will do the same. Ugh! Get me out of here Lord!

    • It’s in your car or truck already if you have “On-Star” or its equivalent… It’s been in most vehicles for many years, and people didn’t know they were being eavesdropped upon! Their buddies didn’t rat them out; they ratted themselves out while planning their crimes / surprises in their vehicle!

This comment won’t post. It says Error, that it’s a duplicate and I already said this, but that’s not true. So here goes again.
