It’s unclear how Google is doing it. The company could rely on data from businesses or simply use AI to figure out building entry points. Or, it could be a combination of both.

The following report is by BGR:

Tell me if this has ever happened to you: Google Maps gets you to your destination, but the entrance is not where Google Maps navigation ends. You’re on your own once you’re in the vicinity. You might have to circle the block to find the entry, which isn’t clear from the directions you get.

This happened to me just last week, and it’s pretty annoying. I had to get to a meeting, and the entrance was on a parallel street, not where Google Maps directed me to go. It wasn’t the first time I had to find the entry point on my own.

Thankfully, Google is already testing a Google Maps version that shows building entrances. The feature is available on specific devices, so you won’t see it in action right away. But it seems to support buildings in multiple cities around the world.

The feature was first found by Android Police on Google Maps version 11.17.0101 running on a Google Pixel 7a. It wasn’t available on other devices.

To see a building’s entrance, you have to zoom in on the destination to see building entrances. You would already do this in Google Maps on iPhone or Android when navigating to a place.

If a building shows points of entry, you’d see them as round white circles that have an entry symbol in them. Or they might appear as a green arrow in a white circle. It looks like Google is currently testing different visual indicators for the feature.

Android Police found that the feature worked with all sorts of buildings in different cities. But not all places had entrances showing. Also, some building entrances appeared in the wrong spot in Google Maps.

We experimented with a few different kinds of buildings, ranging from hotels, doctors’ offices, supermarkets, hardware stores, cafes, and restaurants in New York City, Las Vegas, and San Francisco, as well as in Berlin, Germany.

That all sounds like normal behavior for a test. Google has to collect informaton about the entrances in buildings and then display it in Google Maps. It’s unclear how Google is doing it. The company could rely on data from businesses or simply use AI to figure out building entry points. Or, it could be a combination of both. I’m just speculating, however.

Google is already offering this feature elsewhere in Google Maps. The app shows you where to enter and exit public transit hubs, like train and subway stations. The feature currently only works in select cities.

I wouldn’t be surprised if support for building entrances rolled out progressively for different cities. But I believe this will be a great addition to Google Maps, greatly improving the accuracy of the navigation experience.

Once Google rolls out the feature more widely, it’ll likely be available on both iPhone and Android

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

I mention this because, to me, it demonstrates a small and subtle incremental loss of even more privacy; as big-tech, without your permission or consent, is spying down on you with all these satellites and scanners, publicly sharing all your personal information. So, now if you are trying to find a home, Google will now give away the different entryways to your business and home. This will lead to increased crimes, thefts, and invasions.

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Daniel 12:4

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • Just last night, not sure where, I was reading or watching something that described how these google maps are used for illegals to meet up at gathering points once they are in the US. Great, now the entry way into our very buildings will be easier for them.

  • Obviously, this is designed to benefit the Gestapo / cops. The round-up is coming to a town near YOU, in the very near future. Legislation is being tabled in N. Amerikan government venues right now, describing how they plan to deal with all dissidents. See Canada’s Bill C-63, and you’ll know what I mean; it has very little to do with protecting children, and all to do with arresting and basically disappearing those they deem to be their opposition. They call it “life sentence”, but they’re not going to keep and to feed their perceived opposition for any length of time. They will be exterminated instead. They can even make up false witnesses and false accusations, w/out revealing their sources. This legislation is being put into place in all the Western nations as I type these words. It’s just a matter of time now before we have “the knock” on our door, if they don’t smash it down instead. Pray up, and be prepared to die, if Jesus doesn’t intervene.

  • Suggestion for my American brethren. Fix your points of entry. For doors, longer screws for the hinges and strike plates (if you can, change your door if it’s the common, hollow type). Maybe change your deadbolts and strike plates into heavy duty ones. If possible, install door security brackets. Fix your windows too, maybe with window security film or steel bars (if it’s allowed). Just don’t make it impossible for you to escape in case wicked thugs manage to get in or if there’s a fire (but according to statistics, there are more instances of B and E’s than house fires). Maybe get a trained dog, they can sense strangers ahead of time. If not, put up “beware of dog” signs anyway.

These and many other practical things that you can research online to harden your home will possibly prevent or discourage them, or slow them down enough, buying you time to position yourself for self-defense or for escaping. Try to stay fit and be sober so you can act and react faster. The rest will be up to the Lord.

    • The doors to my house have a number of different locks on them, so perps will have to literally smash the door in. But by that time I’ve already called the cops, or standing ready with my loaded gun.

      • Amen. It’s good to make them work hard at trying to enter our homes. If they realize your house is a tough nut to crack, they will pick other places that are easier to break into, very unfortunate for those who are still recklessly fooling around despite the utter seriousness of things happening all over.
