The law provides for an emergency brake, as requested by Parliament, so targets for agricultural ecosystems can be suspended under exceptional circumstances if they severely reduce the land needed for sufficient food production for EU consumption.

Last week the European Union quietly passed a controversial landmark bill that establishes the EU’s necessity to “restore” the land and sea, which effectually grants member states more power to mitigate and sequester the lands. This comes during weeks and weeks after protests from farmers across Europe.

Known as the “EU nature restoration law,” the legislature passed with a vote of 329 votes in favor, 275 against, and 24 abstentions. The bill faced heavy opposition from the European People’s Party (EPP), the largest political consortium in the EU Parliament, which was able to get the bill to rescind some of its original stipulations. The EPP fought against all the additional governmental red tape and added procedures farmers would need to follow, which is one of the things the farmers protesting across the EU are demonstrating against.

The German publication DW noted the policy requires final approval from EU member states before it becomes de-facto law, which normally is a guarantee after such a vote as this, though it is not guaranteed due to the heavy resistance currently being witnessed in the EU.

After the vote, rapporteur César Luena (SD, ES), said in a statement:

The Nature Restoration Law is an essential piece of the European Green Deal and follows the scientific consensus and recommendations to restore Europe’s ecosystems. Farmers and fishers will benefit from it and it ensures a habitable earth for future generations. Our position adopted today sends a clear message. Now we must continue the good work, defend our ground during the negotiations with member states and reach an agreement before the end of this Parliament’s mandate to pass the first regulation on nature restoration in the EU’s history.

The EU provides more details as to what the bill entails in a press release, which states:

The EU nature restoration law, agreed with member states, will restore degraded ecosystems in all member states, help achieve the EU’s climate and biodiversity objectives and enhance food security.

To reach the overall EU targets, member states must restore at least 30% of habitats covered by the new law (from forests, grasslands and wetlands to rivers, lakes and coral beds) from a poor to a good condition by 2030, increasing to 60% by 2040, and 90% by 2050. In line with Parliament’s position, EU countries should give priority to Natura 2000 areas until 2030. Once in a good condition, EU countries shall ensure an area does not significantly deteriorate. Member states will also have to adopt national restoration plans detailing how they intend to achieve these targets.

Agriculture Ecosystems

To improve biodiversity in agricultural ecosystems, EU countries will have to make progress in two of the following three indicators: the grassland butterfly index; the share of agricultural land with high-diversity landscape features; the stock of organic carbon in cropland mineral soil. Measures to increase the common farmland bird index must also be taken as birds are good indicators of the overall state of biodiversity.

As restoring drained peatlands is one of the most cost-effective ways to reduce emissions in the agricultural sector, EU countries must restore at least 30% of drained peatlands by 2030 (at least a quarter shall be rewetted), 40% by 2040 and 50% by 2050 (where at least one-third shall be rewetted). Rewetting will remain voluntary for farmers and private landowners.

The law provides for an emergency brake, as requested by Parliament, so targets for agricultural ecosystems can be suspended under exceptional circumstances if they severely reduce the land needed for sufficient food production for EU consumption.

Other Ecosystems

The law also demands a positive trend in several indicators in forest ecosystems and an additional three billion trees to be planted. Member states will also have to restore at least 25 000 km of rivers into free-flowing rivers and ensure there is no net loss in the total national area of urban green space and of urban tree canopy cover.

Background

Over 80% of European habitats are in poor shape. The Commission proposed on 22 June 2022 a nature restoration law to contribute to the long-term recovery of damaged nature across the EU’s land and sea areas, to achieve EU climate and biodiversity objectives and to reach the EU’s international commitments, in particular the UN Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity frameworkAccording to the Commission, the new law would bring significant economic benefits, as every euro invested would result in at least 8 euro in benefits.

This legislation is responding to citizens’ expectations concerning the protection and restoration of biodiversity, the landscape and oceans as expressed in proposals 2(1), 2(3), 2(4) and 2(5) of the conclusions of the Conference on the Future of Europe.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

This bill is just a cute way to justify stealing the people’s land. Just look at what’s been going on in The Netherlands for proof: they are trying to steal the people’s lands, thousands upon thousands of acres, based on arbitrary metrics, and force the residue of them into smart cities eating crickets and lab-grown meat.

I mean, the bill is literally saying that if ‘oops, we took too much land and we caused a famine, we can then relax the laws to increase food production.’ That’s how insane this is, and they are boldly print it as they are so proud of themselves.

[1] Why, seeing times are not hidden from the Almighty, do they that know him not see his days? [2] Some remove the landmarks; they violently take away flocks, and feed thereof. [3] They drive away the ass of the fatherless, they take the widow’s ox for a pledge. [4] They turn the needy out of the way: the poor of the earth hide themselves together. [12] Men groan from out of the city, and the soul of the wounded crieth out: yet God layeth not folly to them. [13] They are of those that rebel against the light; they know not the ways thereof, nor abide in the paths thereof.

Job 24:1-4, 12-13

You can read the rest of that passage if you want, but the tyranny and villainy is nothing new; and it stems from a people that rebels against the truth of God’s word, which is evident for all to see in the West, and therefore you can expect such express evil and oppression to occur.

This bill’s passage falls in line with previous reports that the EU and U.S. would look to implement harsh meat and carbon taxes by 2024. SEE: Hunger Games: World Bank And Cargill Simulated Food Crisis That Starts In 2020 During Pandemic, Predicts Carbon And Meat Taxes In 2024

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • Make feudalism great again. Robber barons making us all American Indians by stealing and grifting.

Europeans must fight back or come to America while we are still a republic; if we can keep it.

    • Good thinking, European Farmers and other productive souls would be welcomed in USA, I wonder if they would get the same benefits as the illegals crossing our borders, or if they would even be welcomed by our current ‘overlords’ ?
