OpenAI Unveils “Sora” – Program That Creates Hyper-Realistic Videos From Text Prompts

Sora can generate videos up to a minute long while maintaining visual quality and adherence to the user’s prompt.

Sora is able to generate complex scenes with multiple characters, specific types of motion, and accurate details of the subject and background. The model understands not only what the user has asked for in the prompt, but also how those things exist in the physical world.

The model has a deep understanding of language, enabling it to accurately interpret prompts and generate compelling characters that express vibrant emotions. Sora can also create multiple shots within a single generated video that accurately persist characters and visual style.

The company says of Sora

However, OpenAI has admitted to some current shortfalls, such as sometimes being unable to “understand specific instances of cause and effect,” or may get confused with basic commands and spatial awareness, and “may struggle with precise descriptions of events that take place over time.”

Nevertheless what Sora is able to generate on it own at the moment is quite detailed, and save for some occasional blurriness and choppy framerate, the final product could very easily trick the untrained and blasé eye.

Marques Brownlee, one of the largest tech YouTubers, put out a video highlighting what Sora can do, and shared his fears of a dystopian future that is now. A number of people in the comments also shared their concerns, especially video editors and photographers.

The amount of deceit and treachery here is unreal (no pun intended). The amount of slander this can be used for will be detrimental. Truth be told though, as a “conspiracy theorist,” I contend that AI has been used for a long time in mainstream media, Hollywood, the Pentagon, etc.
