War: Sweden Reactivates Compulsory Military Service As Nation Strengthens Ties With Ukraine, Doing NATO’s Bidding Already

The move comes after the country’s defense minister issued an ominous warning that “there could be a war in Sweden.”

Swedish outlet SVT reported: ‘From 19 January, the civil service in Sweden is reactivated, and in the first stage it is about the emergency services area. In a next step, the government has pointed out the electricity supply.’

Charlotte Petri Gornitzka, Director General of MSB, said:

Those areas must work, we must have infrastructure. But also school and care.

‘The purpose of reactivating the civil obligation is to strengthen the total defense, and it is the Swedish Agency for Social Protection and Preparedness, MSB, who has been given responsibility for starting work within the emergency services,’ SVT added.

“People who already work in these areas will already be in the defense and then we must be able to oblige others,” says Charlotte Petri Gornitzka.

There are three different parts of the Defense force according to SVT:

Civil Defense: The civil defense consists of authorities, municipalities, regions, companies, organizations and private individuals who together strengthen the country’s resilience to war or war.

Military Defense: The military defense consists of the Armed Forces and the Home Guard as well as a number of other authorities. The main task of the Armed Forces is to defend Sweden against an armed attack

Total Defense: Total defense is the term that includes both military and civilian defense. These are all activities needed to prepare Sweden for war.

Apparently this reactivation has to do with increasing relations with Ukraine and NATO alignment. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said in a statement earlier this month that he supported bomb shelters in Kyiv. He added:

Step by step, we are now building up the new total defence. And on January 19th, Sweden reactivates the civil obligation. Citizenship is not a travel document.

Additionally, as noted by The Guardian, ‘Kristersson also announced plans to send forces to Latvia, despite Sweden not yet being a full member of Nato. “We waste no time waiting for the final ratifications,” he said, referring to stalling from Nato members Hungary and Turkey.’

The Guardian’s piece highlighted some of the young women that have already been conscripted. The Guardian wrote (in part):

When Hedda Johannesson, like most of her school year group, received a questionnaire to determine whether she would be conscripted for military service, she considered herself anti-war.

But, having passed the necessary intelligence, physical and psychological tests, the 18-year-old behavioural science student will soon spend 11 months learning about chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear warfare.

It’s been only a year and a half since Sweden submitted its Nato application, marking a sharp change in the historically neutral country’s approach to defence and international relations. But in recent weeks a looming sense of potential conflict has swept the country as citizens were warned to prepare themselves for the possibility of war.

“I did the tests and then they recruited me, whether I wanted to [serve] or not,” said Johannesson. “With what’s happening in Ukraine I would like to protect the people who can be protected – since if there’s going to be a war [in Sweden] someone is going to have to do it and it might as well be me.”

Although not everybody will be required to do military service – only a small proportion of the population is called up against their will – as of Friday, the government is also restarting compulsory civic duty, a form of national service which was dismantled after the cold war.

[…] Many of the teenagers say their generation has been shaken by a succession of world events. “As we’ve grown up and are getting older, it’s been one thing after another. And I feel like we’re kind of desensitised to it in a way. Greta Thunberg, pandemic, war,” said Lara Nippman, 18, also a student.

[…] Samrand Faik, who works with young people in the Stockholm district of Järva, said that for many young people he had spoken to, especially those outraged by the government’s inaction over a series of Qur’an burnings last year, the expectation to do national service feels unjust.

“People feel: ‘Why should I fight and play my part in civic duty if Sweden cannot give me safety when it was calm and safe?’”

Experts said the national service announcement was a sign that civil defence is now a national priority.

Dr Sanna Strand, a researcher in Stockholm University’s economic history and international relations department, said: “Politicians from across the political spectrum are pointing to the importance of a prepared and resilient population, often by giving the Ukrainian people as an example.”

Calling up those who do not want to do military service was a “notable step”, Strand said.

Politicians are now clearly emphasising the importance of doing one’s duty to the country – even openly questioning the loyalty of certain groups, as Kristersson did when he was critiquing the attitude of some immigrants to Swedish citizenship at the recent Swedish defence conference.

It will be interesting to see how young people react when less than 10% of the age group is called upon to do their duty … while most of their friends do not have to.

“Doing one’s duty to the country.” – Yeah right, give me a break. This is a complete load of nonsense and propaganda.

Go back to Zelensky’s previous warnings: he said at least two times on a main stage publicly, that if Ukraine loses then NATO allies would be thrust into battle. He first said a year ago:

Who wants a third world war? Would anyone risk – would anyone be willing to accept that risk? The U.S. is never going to give up on the NATO member states.

If it happens so that Ukraine due to various opinions and weaken and depleting assistance loses, Russia is going to enter Baltic states, NATO member states, and then the U.S. will have to send their sends and daughters exactly the same way as we are sending their sons and daughters to war, and they will have to fight because it’s a nature that we are talking about, and they will be dying, God forbid because it’s a horrible thing.

Zelensky said something similar again last December:

The choice of Americans is the choice of Americans. In the case of Ukraine, if resilience fails today due to lack of aid and shortages of weapons and funding, it will mean that Russia will most likely invade NATO countries. And then the American children will fight.

So, all this is just Zelensky’s prophecy and predictive programming to pass. Since Ukraine has clearly been lost, and their losses absurd and insurmountable, now you are seeing the U.S. (which basically controls all of NATO) bully around Sweden into doing what they want them to do, seeing as the rest of Europe is struggling to keep itself together.

Sweden made a foolish decision in aligning themselves with NATO and the U.S., and now they are already paying the price for it.
