But what happens when a car fails to update? Well, it may leave you stranded.
Last week, a picture went viral on social media that displayed a “blue screen of death” on the dash, warning the owner that their vehicle’s update failed and stated “your vehicle cannot be driven.” The message told the driver to “Please call customer support” for help.
One user posted this “blue screen of death” on a Ford Mach-E forum page inquiring if this was real. Some users confirmed that it is real and occurs more commonly than consumers realize.
That’s the message you will see on the rare occasion that an OTA fails. It’s a special customer service phone number for dealing with failed OTAs. It’s from a user on Reddit, his car has since been fixed and is back to normal FYI.
A respondent wrote
Just bought my MME last week and I love it, but I have to agree with the general sentiment – there’s no reason for this screen to ever occur. Like, ever. If an OTA update fails in such a way that this screen would be necessary, they should automatically revert to the last working state and notify the user.
This is essentially a solved problem in the world of computing. I’m sure there’s some wrinkles that make it difficult, but it’s fundamentally something that they should change their systems to make it impossible.

In response to the comments, other chimed in that they were still dealing with a failed OTA update.
I’m still dealing with a failed OTA update. My 6.2.0 was incomplete. Called Ford Motor Company and they confirmed the failed update and stated the update would try again within 30 days. 60 days later, with no update, they sent me to a dealer for service.
Dealer claimed to have updated the software. My car was delivered to my home and nothing was fixed. In fact, my software reverted to 4.2.1. Now my service manager has no idea what to do. I can’t change drive modes, open trunk or frunk, and pre-collision warning turns on all the time. I can still drive but with limited capability. Feels like a car with a sprained ankle.

Last year Ford filed a patent that would allow the vehicle to drive itself back to the lot if the owner cannot pay the monthly lease and payments. SEE: Ford Files New Patent That Will Allow New Semi-Autonomous Models To Repossess Themselves If Owner Is Late On Payments
Popular YouTuber Louis Rossman, a staunch advocate for right-to-repair and the loss of ownership in modern products, also reported on this ordeal with Ford’s “blue screen of death,” remarking,
In modern times we have come to expect, and dare I say accept, that you get less freedom, less functionality, and more ****.

One commentor on a ZeroHedge article also had a great response to this news:
All by design. The totalitarians are salivating at the idea of controlling every aspect of your life including (but not limited to) the energy you use, the miles you drive, the locations you are allowed to visit, the foods you are allowed to eat, whether or not you will receive medical treatment when you’re sick, the job you will have, whether or not you will be allowed children, etc.
Of course they can’t say the quiet part out loud. Right now it’s all about saving the environment by getting rid of gas stoves, petro-fueled cars, and coal power plants. Good cover for the useful idiots who will believe and obey.
They’ve been testing their power though. Only essential businesses could remain open during the great pandemic. Only vaccinated employees could continue to be employed, etc. This seems so obvious. Tighter and tighter controls and restrictions (for our benefit of course) and less liberty (for the greater good).
And once we’ve gone full Marxist, the elite will rule over us from their luxurious palaces while we suffer. It is so every time it is tried.
This comment sums it up well.
Why in the world would you want to drive an overpriced piece of junk, that has built-in obsolescence in many of its components, that is not even operational anymore unless an update to its internal systems and computer has been made? Remember when cars never used to have this garbage, and you could simply put the key in the ignition, and you could ride free? Yeah, those days are long gone.
Almost one year ago I reported that under a new provision passed by the Biden administration, news cars will be mandated to have automatic kill-switch technology by 2026; and apparently there have been talks of bringing that in even sooner if possible. It’s touted as preventing drunk driving, for example, but we know that it will include a whole lot more people than just drunkards.
Needless to say, you need to drive only older models that do not have all this biometric and over the top computing, and smart tech. American model vehicles anymore these days especially are just junk, are overpriced, and the customer service is a nightmare.
The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
Psalm 33:10
[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

Even when I was working at Cadillac in 2008, we had problems where we called tech support (engineers) and they could only guess at it and sometimes had no clue. Nowadays, I’d bet it is out of control to fix problems like this; even in 2008 we reprogrammed over the internet and prayed it got updated, if not, another hour wasted in screwing around with “advanced technology”
Peculiar article, exactly what I was looking for.
No it wasn’t.
