Australia’s move to a cashless society grows by the day, as it has been reported by Australian media that 718 ATMs have been removed since last year, along with 424 physical bank branches closing their doors. Instead the strong majority of Australians prefer paying digitally, by swiping cards or by “tap-and-go.”

This fact was brought about after the Reserve Bank of Australia’s Governor Michele Bullock revealed yesterday, that there may come a time where businesses and lending institutions may charge consumers for using cash. One economist featured on Australia’s 7 News Sunrise explained that people are already paying a small fee when transacting digitally, so the so-called “cost” Bullock referred to was this.

Citing Australian media sources and economists, The WinePress has noted that Australia is forecast to become “functionally cashless” by 2025.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

The one economist who appeared on Sunrise kept saying that they will “never” get rid of cash. Well, looks someone hasn’t had read the scriptures lately… Yes, it is perhaps true that the new CBDC system and cash may possibly work ubiquitously for a time (which is probably just wishful thinking), but we of course know that cash will eventually go by the wayside, for which we are not too far away from.

[16] And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: [17] And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. [18] Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Revelation 13:16-18

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
