The Australian province of New South Wales is now introducing a system that facilitates cashless and contactless payments for public transit on buses, as the country is making the rapid transition to go cashless.

Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW), the governing body in charge of this move, has partnered with payment systems group Littlepay to facilitate the contactless payments.

Smart Cities World reported in early-November: ‘TfNSW is trialling contactless payment technology on buses in the cities of Bathurst and Dubbo. The contactless payment technology will accept debit cards containing a chip, credit cards (American Express, Mastercard or Visa), or a digital wallet linked to these cards.’

Beforehand the Buslines network in those cities required the purchase of a paper ticket with cash, but this transition will allow commuters to ‘the option to pay their fare by simply tapping their credit or debit card, mobile, or smartwatch.’

Jenny Aitchison, the minister for regional transport and roads, said in a statement:

We know that public transport is a social determinant of health, education, opportunity and jobs. These improvements to the Dubbo bus network will make a real difference and help more people get where they need to go at times that are more convenient for them.

Amin Shayan, CEO of Littlepay, added:

Littlepay’s core mission has always been to move more people on public transport through better payment experiences, which in turn supports sustainability.

TFNSW has consistently demonstrated leadership in providing innovative technology solutions to improve public transit services, and we’re excited to have partnered with them on the implementation of our payment technology in regional NSW.

This news is the latest in the country’s rapid phasing-out of physical cash and brick & mortar banks, and replacing that with digital IDs and wallet, and cryptocurrency transactions.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

As I have been reporting, Australia is one of the leading nations trailblazing this transition to a cashless society, as that people have just completely threw logic and freedom away to the wind, in the name of ‘convenience.’ They dug their grave on that one.

Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices.

Proverbs 1:31

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
