Getty Images, the stock photo agency with more than 135 million images on file, has premiered its own AI able to invent images in response to user requests.

The following report is by The Trends Journal:

The company also pledged to pay royalties to suppliers of the original images the AI will use to create synthetic ones.

“We fundamentally believe creatives’…expertise and the investment they put into this content should be rewarded,” Getty CEO Craig Peters said in announcing the AI.

“The dollars will be small at the outset,” he added, “but these will develop into material revenue streams.”

Getty has sued Stability AI in a British court, claiming Stability’s image-generating AI “unlawfully copied and processed millions of images protected by copyright.”

Getty has pledged to assume all legal responsibility should anyone take action against any of the images used to train, or created by, the new tool.

Microsoft made a similar promise last month regarding its CoPilot AI, which has been woven into its Word, Excel, and Powerpoint software.

Getty’s new tool debuted as OpenAI released an update of its DALL-E image-generating program and said its ChatGPT will soon be able to recognize and describe images.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.

Proverbs 21:25

While I don’t purchase from Getty Images, I use a few other asset websites, and I can tell you that there is so much AI-generated content on them already it’s disgusting. Not only do most of the pictures look terrible and stupid, why should I pay for stuff that people did not even make?

Artistry and design is functionality dead. AI is replacing everything so rapidly it is so disgusting, and yet most people are content with it. The silver lining here I suppose is real art will become more valuable to those who want “real” and “organic” material, and can there make better wages. But this is hopeful at best.

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).

  • 10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat.
11 For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, working not at all, but are busybodies.
12 Now them that are such we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread.
13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.
14 And if any man obey not our word by this epistle, note that man, and have no company with him, that he may be ashamed.

  • I believe we’re missing the “big picture” here, because we’re not pausing long enough to clearly think things through. I might be wrong, but here’s my take on it…

The courts and universities are already having problems because essays and court evidence(s) are being drummed up by AI. It’s very difficult to determine what is AI and what is organic; that’s very problematic on both sides of the “floor”. Next problem…

AI can generate pictures of anyone being at the scene of a crime, thereby setting up innocent people. It can also put people in places, situations, and events etc., where that person or those people were never at, ruining marriages, business and other relationships, and trust. See where this is all heading? Any excuse to imprison people and to “throw away the key” will work to their advantage.

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.” 2 Tim. 3: 1 KJ Holy Bible

Those times are here! Truth is almost history, and trust is close behind.
