Columnist For The Guardian Says The World Needs To Adopt Flour Fermented From Bacteria And End Livestock Industry To Slowdown Hunger Crisis

George Monbiot, acclaimed writer for the British paper The Guardian and author of several books, believes that having the world adopt a faux protein flour made from different cell-cultured bacteria will help alleviate the international food shortages and supply chain woes.

The WinePress reported earlier this summer that The Guardian has also promoted the concept of donating pee to farmers as an alternative to conventional fertilizers, which are in short supply worldwide.

The systematic collapse of the worldwide food systems and trade is certainly not new news: this is, again, something The WP has been reporting on for some time; especially in the beginning of this year as concerning the initial fallout from the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Currently Monbiot is on a tour promoting his latest book “Regenesis,” further discussing these food and supply chain disruptions that poses an “existential threat” to the planet and the people, while offering a potential solution to the problem.

To make a long story short – skipping past the commentary on the grim outlook of international food systems – the columnist sat down for an interview with Swedish outlet Aftonbladet to also discuss his potential solution to the imminent hunger crisis.

In past economic crises, central banks and government would print oodles of cash to attempt to temporarily alleviate the problem. But Monbiot says with food it’s just not that simple, right now that is.

We cannot save the food system with future food. Future food does not exist. We can create money out of thin air, we can say that “now we just invented more money”. But we can’t wave a magic wand to create more food.

Monbiot said

Aftonbladet wrote: ‘However, George Monbiot believes that there is a solution in what is called precision fermentation, which he believes can revolutionize food production.’

‘It involves using bacteria that feed on hydrogen or methanol, water, carbon dioxide and a little fertilizer to create a flour that contains 60 percent protein. One report estimates that precision fermentation with methanol requires 1,700 times less land than the most efficient agricultural means of producing protein: Soy grown in the United States,’ the Swedish publication added.

This can create a backup system that can produce huge amounts of food, any amount of food with very little water use, very little fertilizer.

Monbiot adds

The process described by Monbiot is similar to the processing used in making cultivated and lab-grown meats: where the proteins are fermented in a giant vat like a beer, and are then formed into the similitude of actual meat.

The World Economic Forum has promoted identical technology akin to what Monbiot described, which can create food out of literal thin-air.

Typically, for example, winemaking you add yeast to this sugarish liquid, and this yeast eats sugar for carbon and energy to grow and express some alcohol to surrounding liquid.

We do the same, but our microbe does not eat sugar, but it is hydrogen and carbon dioxide that we bubble in as gases in the fermenter. And that’s where the very fundamental point is how to disconnect from agriculture. No agricultural feedstock is used.

Monbiot goes onto explain how the livestock could be replaced with this new innovation and potentially prevent a total collapse of the world food supplies.

Monbiot says that as the world population continues to expand – which is forecast to have risen by 10 billion people by 2050 – says that the livestock industry is expected double by that rate, fearing that the cattle industry “will eat the world to extinction.”

 In 2050, there will be another 100 million tons of people and another 400 million tons of livestock.

That is the problem. It is the cattle industry that is skyrocketing and it will eat the world to extinction. Getting out of the livestock industry should be a top priority for anyone who cares about the world and its people.

Solar Foods made a similar sales pitch as well as to why their fermented protein powders should be accepted.

Furthermore, when asked about the trifecta of soil degradation, lack of water, and rising temperatures; Monbiot had this to say:

It is a desperate situation and it is surprising to me that this does not weigh more heavily in the political debates. It is an existential threat that we face. There is no doubt that there are enormous threats to the food system. You mentioned water – this is arguably the biggest threat of all. 

There is a general scientific consensus that we need about 50 percent more food by 2050 to avoid mass starvation. That can change if we change our diet, if we move away from animal husbandry we need to produce much less. There is also a broad consensus from agronomists that we can increase food production by 50 percent if we maximize harvest. But one study found it required a 146 percent increase in the amount of water we use. That water does not exist!

Even if you ignored all the other issues around climate breakdown, around land degradation, around the loss of genetic diversity in plants – the lack of water alone would be enough to destroy the food supply.

Since the plant-based slop seems to be failing, perhaps the media is making a new push for this crap now. Will it succeed and will it be in the future? Perhaps, but I know I ain’t eating that “food.”

A lot of this is just another fever dream by these greenies eating too many heads of pesticide-laden broccoli. I still maintain the real push will be “normalized” cannibalism for the future:

But Monbiot’s and The Guardian’s mad ramblings once again align with what the King James Bible prophesized what would happen.
