“Above all, the important thing is not that we save money – we save electricity. A reduced electricity consumption is good for society as a whole, so that we avoid the biggest peaks and reduce the pressure on the electricity grid this autumn and winter.”

A county in Sweden has announced that they will be turning off the streetlights at night in an attempt to cut costs wherever they can.

Sweden, just like the rest of Europe, is dealing with rapidly rising energy costs and shortages, largely due to restrictions levied against Russia backfiring; forcing the nations and peoples to deal with the energy crisis in their own unique ways.

The Nordic nation had already proclaimed to its people to build “huts out of blankets” as a way to tackle the coming cold this winter.

Now Höganäs township has announced that they will be manually shutting off the streetlights to conserve some energy.

The energy situation in Sweden and Europe is currently severely strained. The pressure on the electricity grid means that there is a risk that the electricity will not be enough for certain hours this winter. But together we can improve the situation by reducing electricity use.

[…] In consultation with Höganäs Energi, has decided to turn off a third of the street lighting.

The work is expected to be fully completed some time into November. Since the shutdown must be done manually in each electrical cabinet, it takes time to complete. In the municipality of Höganäs, there are over 8,000 municipal lighting poles.

You can report an error if you feel that an area has become too dark in connection with the switch-off.

It is important that we contribute to reducing electricity use. But it is also important not to create unsafe environments. We have therefore gone through the comments and error reports that have come in and after that lit up street lamps in some areas where the residents reacted to the fact that it had become too dark.

The places we light up are mainly at pedestrian crossings and intersections or places where many street lamps have been turned off in a row.

The county wrote on their website in a updated section concerning “Municipality & management”

Moreover, buried within their self-addressed Q&A, they note that this move is not to reduce costs but electrical use itself, referring to it as a good thing.

Above all, the important thing is not that we save money – we save electricity. A reduced electricity consumption is good for society as a whole, so that we avoid the biggest peaks and reduce the pressure on the electricity grid this autumn and winter.

In a calculation example where electricity costs SEK 2 per kWh, a reduction of 47,700 kWh corresponds to SEK 95,400 per month. If the electricity went up to SEK 6 per kWh, the corresponding amount would be SEK 286,200.

AUTHOR COMMENTARY

Oh, well if it has nothing to do with money then surely Swede’s energy bills will see a small reduction on that reflected on their bills, right? Oh, wait, nevermind…

One by one small municipalities are being taken away all over the Western landscape, as the people idly sit by and watch their nations get utterly crushed from the inside out.

[23] He increaseth the nations, and destroyeth them: he enlargeth the nations, and straiteneth them again. [24] He taketh away the heart of the chief of the people of the earth, and causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way. [25] They grope in the dark without light, and he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.

Job 12:23-25

[7] Who goeth a warfare any time at his own charges? who planteth a vineyard, and eateth not of the fruit thereof? or who feedeth a flock, and eateth not of the milk of the flock? [8] Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also? [9] For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen? [10] Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope. (1 Corinthians 9:7-10).
